The Next Wave: Young Prospects Making Noise at the PGH Expo (AZ)

The future of Arizona girls' basketball was on display at the Prep Girls Hoops Expo. Several prospects from the Classes of 2027, 2028, 2029, and 2030 showcased their skills this past weekend. The following group of girls really stood out.    Kaitlyn had a solid weekend. What was impressive about Kaitlyn this weekend was her off-the-ball movement. She makes purposeful cuts and understands spacing concepts. She keeps the opposing defenders occupied by her continuous movement. Kaitlyn also appears comfortable attacking gaps. She has a solid mid-range jumper. As Kaitlyn plays more, her offensive creativity will continue to grow. Kaitlyn has strong closeout discipline.     Millie played very well this past weekend. Millie processes the game of basketball very well. She anticipates rotations early. She makes sound decisions with the ball within her team's offensive structure. She has become better at identifying mismatches. She plays with a natural command of the offense when she has the ball. She continues to demonstrate readiness to expand her leadership presence. She rarely exposes the basketball. She demonstrates excellent control of the basketball with both hands. Millie rebounds well beyond her positional expectations. She has active hands on defense. Millie continues to improve her acceleration mechanics. Millie appears confident when switching and plays with a strong competitive effort. Her defensive consistency continues to grow.     Aaliyah is a really good prospect. Defensively, she has excellent anticipation in passing lanes. She has strong closeout discipline. She moves without the ball well. She constantly relocates into scoring windows. She makes winning basketball decisions. She demonstrates good court awareness and continues to improve her recognition of help defenders. She understands basic pick-and-roll reads. Aaliay is a very good passer; she rarely forces the ball into difficult passing angles. Her passes are accurate with timing and good touch on the ball. She has an explosive first step that immediately creates separation. As a young player, she is learning how to maximize her athletic ability. Her long-term athletic upside remains very high. Aaliyah plays under control in transition without sacrificing the pace of the game.     Azaleah has an excellent box-out technique. She locates her opponent immediately upon their shot release, and she establishes legal contact under the rim early. She has excellent awareness as a rebounder. She is learning proper rim protection techniques. She has good vertical discipline. She plays with outstanding physical discipline. She anchors the paint with maturity beyond her experience. She finishes transition opportunities very well. She finishes well through heavy contact. She appears comfortable scoring the ball inside and outside. She shows a willingness to attack the basket. Azaleah demonstrates excellent footwork on the block.     Alexa continues to improve her game. This weekend, she showed that she can read rim protectors very well and was comfortable finishing through contact. She consistently showed that she can make winning transition decisions. She recognizes trailing shooters. Alexa has a strong motor. She shows she can punish poor closeouts and attack the rim when she sees the opportunity. She showed excellent timing in entering gaps on the floor. She has very good offensive instincts. Without the ball, she moves with intention, instead of just running. She has excellent off-ball activity.y     Nell consistently collapses defenses before making decisions. She is capable of maintaining her dribble while the passing lane develops. She understands spacing. Nelly continues to improve her ball security while under pressure. The way Nelly controls tempo manipulation projects immediately. She responds positively after mistakes. Nelly competes hard.     Rozay was definitely one of the best players at the showcase. Rozay has excellent short-area quickness. Rozay has excellent lateral-to-linear transition. Processes the game at an advanced level for her age. She always seems to maintain composure while reacting. Rozay has high-level basketball processing. She has flexible movement, which enhances her recovery ability. Identifies weak-side opportunities, and she is able to process multiple passing options at the same time.
