Ray Kimball and I joined forces to offer the first-ever Headliners Invitational Showcase back in November of 2023. After taking a sabbatical in 2024, our conviction became undeniably strong that the Headliners needed to return and become a staple event in the community. The inspiration for the Headliners Invitational Showcase came after observing elite camps and prospect camps across the state. There were pieces of traditional showcase formats (games/scrimmaging), college elite camps, and prospect camps that I liked, but something was missing from the equation. The ideal format became apparent as I reflected upon my goal for joining Prep Girls Hoops in the first place: to identify and help girls basketball prospects be recruited by college coaches.

Headliners Invitational Showcase, High School Session, Portland, Oct. 25, 2026.

An event where girls would have the opportunity to: 1) Work with college coaches who want to recruit them, 2) Be evaluated by college coaches who fit their level of ability, and 3) Receive comprehensive media coverage by Prep Girls Hoops scouts was clearly needed for prospects in the community. Every prospect is unique, and the traditional showcase format may not be the best fit for everyone. Those girls need opportunities to demonstrate their skills through small-sided games and drills in front of college coaches--not just games. That's exactly why drills emphasizing different skill areas, 3v3, and 5v5 games were all included at the Headliners Invitational. The format was chosen to set prospects up for success in front of the scouts and college coaches. Every prospect had a reversible jersey with a number that corresponded to the information in the college coaches' event packets. College programs D2, D3, NAIA, NCCAA, and JUCO across the state received an invitation to this event, with several border state programs also included. Time was built into the event for prospects to speak with college coaches after their sessions. An exciting segment was added to the event this year, with Make Shots trainer Mike Soukup putting both the high school and middle school participants through a shooting workout.

Headliners Invitational Showcase, Middle School Session, Portland, Oct. 25, 2026.

There were no middle school showcases offered in the state back in 2023, so it became clear that we had a great opportunity to provide an exceptional first experience for middle schoolers. Since college coaches are recruiting/evaluating high schoolers and our PGH coverage prioritizes high school prospects during their AAU and high school seasons, having a middle school session became very important. Middle schoolers not only worked with college coaches, but also had the opportunity to train with current Lansing Community College players. Jocelyn Kotowicz (2025, St. Johns) ran a Q & A segment with the participants and provided valuable insight about what it's like to be a college basketball player. Every middle schooler is on the Prep Girls Hoops radar ahead of their high school career and will be promoted on our platform. By attending a showcase before their freshman year, these middle schoolers will be better prepared for high-stakes environments in front of college coaches.

Coach Mike Soukop, Make Shots Clinic, Headliners Invitational Showcase, Portland, Oct. 25, 2026.

Coach Ray Kimball, Lansing Community College, Co-Director Headliners Invitational Showcase, Portland, Oct. 25, 2026.

My coverage focused primarily on Team Wings and Team Lynx during the high school session. She didn't lose one iota of resolve after a miss and immediately responded by swishing a smooth corner three on the following possession. Her pesky pressure created steals, and Kennedy will be a productive two-way point guard to keep an eye on in Portland's backcourt.

Hayden makes a comprehensive impact on the court. Her length, athleticism, ability to shoot the three, hustle, capable ball-handling in the open court, rebounding presence, and footwork caught my attention. Jaela made good off-ball basket cuts, finished at the rim, and went up strong off two feet. She sprinted back in transition to stop fast breaks, grabbed rebounds with ferocity, used an effective spin pivot to create a scoring angle, and drove hard to the basket, then absorbed the contact to score an and-one bucket with her inside hand. Jaela managed to slip through the cracks until now, but she's on our radar now and could be a great addition to a college program.

Mickayla is a tough, strong, physical, and talented guard. She buried a smooth corner three and attacked downhill, then finished effectively with her off hand. Mickayla forced the help to commit to her dribble and kicked the ball out effectively to shooters. She stayed active on the ball and in passing lanes to force turnovers and worked hard to contribute as a rebounder. Mickayla delivered a solid all-around performance at the Headliners Invitational Showcase, and she will be a good addition to a college program.

Peyton did not look or play like a freshman at the Headliners Invitational Showcase. I've said it before that the mark of a great shooter is that as their shot volume increases, their accuracy (field goal percentage) stays high. Taylor is an efficient shot maker. She hit four of five triples in the first game and stayed red hot from beyond the arc by sinking multiple threes in the next two games. Taylor has expanded her game and shown confidence and progress as a scoring threat off the dribble. She asserted herself as a slasher, attacked gaps, and went up strong to absorb contact and finish at the rim. Taylor used her shoulder effectively to create space to finish off two feet. She was active on the boards and threw long passes up the court for assists on fast breaks. Taylor pushed the ball briskly up the court to score a fast break bucket with her left hand, split the gap on a hard drive to cause a foul, ripped by a defender to score a layup off the bounce, and dished out a strong skip pass for an assist. Taylor knocked down threes from different spots around the arc with a quick release. I made a comment during games that she has the green light at all times. Taylor received my MVP selection and the Midwest Recruiting Report Sniper Award following her outstanding performance at the Headliners Invitational Showcase.

Alexis received an MVP selection from the Midwest Recruiting Resource following a dominant two-way performance at the Headliners Invitational Showcase. She'll also be receiving recognition as First Team All-Showcase. Her college range, deadly three-point accuracy, hustle, and defensive prowess separated her on the court. Alexis was one of the most disruptive and aggressive defenders in the gym. She sprinted back to block a shot in transition, hit the deck to scrap for loose balls, stole the ball away at half, and crashed the boards to score a putback with her left. Every three for Alexis in my notebook was deep. She drained deep threes from straight on and from the wing, then anticipated closeouts to rip by and attack with a burst downhill. She penetrated off the drive and finished layups efficiently at the rim. Alexis froze a defender with a pocket dribble, then shifted gears to score a drive-by layup. She forced the defense to send her to the free-throw line and stuffed the stat sheet. Alexis will be shooting up the rankings, and she looks ready for a monster sophomore campaign at Schoolcraft.

Riley has developed into more of a guard/wing than a forward. Her length, athleticism, and versatility give her a ton of upside. Riley climbed an invisible ladder to snatch an offensive rebound in a crowd, then went up strong to score the outback. She turned heads with a highlight-reel-worthy play by anticipating a pass at half court, jumping into the passing lane for the steal, accelerating towards the basket in top gear, changing directions suddenly with a crossover to evade the final defender, then scoring the layup without missing a step. Riley has the size to play inside and can utilize different dribble combinations to create driving lanes. She shifted a defender with an inside-out crossover and drove hard to the basket. Riley had a solid day at the Headliners Invitational Showcase and will be a key contributor to watch at Frankfort this season.

Karyelis turned in a productive day at the Headliners Invitational Showcase. She sprinted the floor to give teammates a scoring option and made a good transfer to score a speedy catch-and-finish layup on a fast break. Karyelis used her quickness and instincts to make a difference as a rebounder on both ends of the court. She penetrated with her dribble and demonstrated excellent facilitating instincts, making extra passes for assists after drawing the last defender. One of her best highlights was a sweet, no-look dish for an assist.

Charlee has height, size, and skill that make her a formidable matchup in the post. She went up strong to convert contested layups off two feet. Charlee established the advantage inside, which put her in position to contribute as a rebounder on both ends of the court. She gave Team Lynx an interior advantage at the Headliners Invitational Showcase and will be a forward on watch for a huge sophomore season at Saugatuck.

Kennedy is a commanding court general, and that stood out at the Headliners Invitational Showcase. She's a scrappy defender, shifty ball-handler, expert facilitator, and three-point threat. Kennedy contested shots well on the perimeter and exuded confidence as a shooter. She…

Hayden makes a comprehensive impact on the court. She competes hard in every phase and has a well-rounded skill set that makes her very productive. Hayden hustled after rebounds and made a great entry pass into the post for an assist. She ripped by defenders with determination off the dribble and finished in traffic after driving aggressively to the basket. Hayden has the range to hit outside shots, and she turned in a solid all-around effort at the Headliners Invitational. She will be a major contributor in the Marysville lineup this season.

State: Michigan

Jaela was the newcomer of the day at the Headliners Invitational Showcase. She's the perfect example of why we started this event in the first place. This format created the ideal environment for Jaela to demonstrate her talents.

Taylor's been on a heater as far as consistently separating herself at showcases and elite camps.
