Mid-Atlantic Backcourt Prospects Making Noise

Here are five Mid-Atlantic guards who have been making noise and are worth keeping an eye on.

Ajok is a talented three-point shooter who knocks down shots at a high rate. At 6-foot, she has great size for a guard and uses it to see over defenders and make the right reads as a playmaker. That size also makes her difficult to stop when she gets downhill and builds momentum attacking the rim. Ajok has an impressive handle for a player of her height and will be an interesting player to follow through her upcoming senior season.

Kai is a very good mid-range shooter who does a great job elevating over defenders and knocking down pull-up jumpers. She also has extremely deep range from beyond the arc. Kai plays with a lot of effort and is always willing to dive on the floor to make a play. When she gets into the paint, she makes good decisions between finishing at the rim or stopping quickly for her mid-range jumper.

Janka is an extremely confident shooter with deep three-point range. She has a quick release and can comfortably knock down shots from several steps beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Janka shows good timing around the basket, rising at the right moment to block shots. Her confidence stands out, as she is never afraid to let it fly when given an opportunity.

Somaya does a good job controlling the pace, knowing when to push in transition and when to slow things down to set up the offense. She has a nice floater once she gets into the paint and also plays well out of pick-and-roll action. Somaya is especially dangerous when she creates enough space to set her feet and knock down a three off the dribble.

Lanie is an extremely hard worker who continues to add to her game. Her pull-up jumper from mid-range has improved and become a reliable part of her offense. She also moves well without the ball, finding open space around the perimeter to spot up for three-point opportunities.
