The OK Gold had plenty of talent on display last season, and despite some key graduation losses, there is still a strong group of players returning for the 2026-27 season. South Christian dominated conference play, finishing a perfect 12-0 to capture the OK Gold championship, while West Catholic finished second with an 8-4 record. Across the conference, five of the 11 First Team All-Conference selections graduated, along with four of the five players who earned Honorable Mention recognition. While those departures leave some big shoes to fill, several teams bring back proven players who have already established themselves as major contributors. South Christian returns a talented group despite losing two First Team selections, and there are plenty of other players throughout the conference capable of making an impact this winter. With experienced players looking to build on successful seasons and others ready to take on bigger roles, the OK Gold should once again be an exciting conference to follow. Here's a look at eight returning players I'll be keeping a close eye on this season.

Abby returns for her junior season at South Christian after earning First Team All-Conference honors and helping the Sailors finish a perfect 12-0 in OK Gold play last winter. She brings an impressive combination of length, strength and versatility to the guard position, allowing her to create mismatches and contribute in several different areas. Abby is a confident ball handler who can change speeds, use a quick crossover to create separation and attack the basket with a strong first step. She has excellent body control, can finish with either hand and isn't afraid to play through contact. Her court vision and ability to remain composed under pressure also make her an effective facilitator. Defensively, Abby uses her length to bother opposing guards, challenge shots and protect the rim without picking up unnecessary fouls. She is also a strong rebounder on both ends of the floor. After earning multiple Top Performer honors with MBA UAA 16U over the summer and picking up an offer from Hope College, Abby enters the season as one of the top returning players in the OK Gold.

While this list primarily features returning All-Conference selections, there was no way I could leave Kinley out after the role she played in South Christian's success last season. The talented sophomore guard was an important contributor as a freshman and should take on an even bigger role for the Sailors this winter. Already ranked No. 1 in Michigan's 2029 class with multiple Division I offers, Kinley has an impressive combination of length, athleticism and skill that makes her a threat on both ends of the floor. She can knock down shots from beyond the arc, attack the basket and finish with excellent body control. Kinley also has great court vision and can create scoring opportunities for her teammates, especially in transition. Defensively, she reads passing lanes well, comes away with steals and uses her length to block shots. Add in her ability to rebound and push the pace, and Kinley brings tremendous versatility to the South Christian lineup. With a year of varsity experience behind her, she could be in for a big sophomore season as the Sailors look to defend their OK Gold championship.

Taylor gives Thornapple Kellogg a talented playmaker in the backcourt as she returns for her junior season following First Team All-Conference recognition a year ago. She is a guard who can make opposing defenses pay in several ways, starting with her ability to knock down shots from well beyond the three-point line. Taylor has impressive range and can connect from different spots on the perimeter, forcing defenders to extend their pressure. When they close out too hard, she has the ball-handling skills to take advantage, using hesitation moves and a shifty handle to create separation. What I really like about Taylor's game is her ability to balance scoring with creating opportunities for her teammates. She has excellent court vision, makes impressive reads and delivers accurate passes, including some particularly nice post-entry passes. Her ability to stretch the floor while also running the offense makes her a difficult guard to defend. After an All-Conference sophomore season, Taylor should be a key player for Thornapple Kellogg in a talented OK Gold this winter.

Reece will be a major presence for Thornapple Kellogg again this winter as she enters her senior season following a First Team All-Conference junior campaign. The talented forward averaged a double-double last season, putting up double-digit points and rebounds while showing the ability to impact the game both inside and away from the basket. Reece brings a combination of length, athleticism and strength that makes her difficult to match up against. She is effective in the post, using her footwork and physicality to establish position and create scoring opportunities with her back to the basket. However, she isn't limited to playing inside. Reece can step out and knock down perimeter shots or face up and attack off the dribble, using her strength to finish through contact. Her ability to score in different ways, compete on the glass and bring consistent energy makes her a valuable piece for Thornapple Kellogg. Already committed to Spring Arbor, Reece will look to finish her high school career with another strong season while helping the Trojans compete in the OK Gold.

Speed is one of the first things that comes to mind when watching Marissa, and the Wayland senior is someone opposing defenses will have to be ready for this winter. Coming off a First Team All-Conference junior season, Marissa brings an explosive element to the point guard position with her ability to push the pace and get downhill in a hurry. Her quick first step allows her to turn the corner and create scoring opportunities before defenders have time to react. She is also a threat from beyond the arc, showing the ability to knock down shots from deep and forcing defenders to respect her perimeter game. On the defensive end, Marissa brings toughness and quickness, applying pressure to opposing ball handlers and making them work for every possession. She remains uncommitted in the 2027 class, and college coaches looking for a speedy point guard who can attack the basket, stretch the floor and compete defensively should be taking a serious look at her game. Marissa will be an important player for Wayland as the Wildcats look to make their mark in the OK Gold this season.

Kenley has put together an impressive stretch of basketball over the past several months, and the West Catholic junior enters the high school season with plenty of momentum. After earning First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore, she continued to elevate her game throughout the fall, delivering strong performances at elite camps and earning MVP honors at the PGH Michigan Expo. Kenley brings a combination of length, strength and skill to the guard position that makes her a difficult matchup. She handles the ball with confidence, uses a variety of crossover moves to create separation and has excellent footwork when working through traffic. Her ability to finish with either hand and maintain body control through contact allows her to score effectively around the basket. Kenley is also a dangerous perimeter shooter who can knock down threes off the catch or dribble. Her consistent play has helped establish her as a top-20 prospect in Michigan's 2028 class, and she recently added an offer from Ferris State. With West Catholic coming off another strong season, Kenley will be a key piece as the Falcons look to challenge for the OK Gold title and make another deep postseason run.

West Catholic has another major piece returning in Alexis, a 5-foot-11 senior forward who has already established herself as one of the top players in the OK Gold. The Grand Valley commit brings experience, versatility and proven production to a Falcons team looking to make another strong postseason push. Alexis is a consistent scoring threat who can put together big performances, as she recorded seven games with 20 or more points and six double-doubles last season. She averaged 15.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game through the district semifinals, showing that she can contribute in several ways beyond putting the ball in the basket. Alexis is effective on the glass and has the ability to find open teammates, making her a valuable part of West Catholic's offense. Her efforts earned her First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State honors while helping the Falcons reach the Division 2 state quarterfinals. With her college decision already made, Alexis will look to finish her high school career on a high note and help West Catholic compete for an OK Gold championship.

Meredith is another experienced player returning for South Christian, and the senior wing could take on an even bigger role for the Sailors this winter. After earning All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition last season, she brings a combination of length, athleticism and versatility that makes her a valuable contributor on both ends of the floor. Meredith has the ability to create her own offense with a shifty handle and long strides that allow her to get downhill and finish around the basket. She is also a reliable threat from beyond the arc, giving defenders another challenge when trying to contain her. Defensively, Meredith has the tools to match up against talented opponents, using her length and athleticism to make things difficult while also contributing on the glass. She is currently uncommitted in the 2027 class, and with her decision not to play on the travel circuit, her high school season provides another opportunity for college coaches to evaluate her game. Meredith will be an important piece for South Christian as the Sailors look to defend their OK Gold championship.
