A big piece of that talented young core is 2022 guard Anisa Turner.
Coming off an outstanding freshman campaign, expectations are high for what Turner might be able to do as a sophomore in 2019-20 and beyond. As those expectations grow, people from outside the Denver Metro area are starting to take notice of the young Patriots guard.
“I’ve gotten a couple of letters from people saying they saw me and they’re interested,” Turner said. “I’m desperate to play college basketball so I’m just going to keep working hard and doing whatever it takes to make that happen.”
Turner is already drawing interest from Division-I programs after a strong freshman season with George Washington and having demonstrated her high-ceiling potential while playing with the Colorado Hawks’ 16U team over the summer, according to Keithan Lyons who coaches both teams.
An excellent ball handler and a powerful driver, Turner can get to the basket at will against most defenders and can finish with either hand. She has a quick and accurate pull-up jump shot that compliments her driving ability and makes her a threat to score from anywhere on the floor.
As a freshman for George Washington last winter, Turner averaged 13.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game and excelled at not turning the ball over. She shot 32 percent from the field and 25 percent (15 for 59) from 3-point range.
Still very early in the recruiting process, Turner is not in a position to make a decision any time soon. Though it isn’t really a primary determining factor at this point, she did say that she’s interested in possibly attending a school in one of several states: North Carolina, California, South Carolina and Georgia.
Turner currently sits at No. 8 in the Prep Girls Hoops Colorado 2022 player rankings.
