Saturday was a good day to catch a basketball game. Mount Saint Charles was hosting MacDuffie for an afternoon showdown in Woonsocket. The 2 NEPSAC teams were starting the season with a bunch of new faces on their rosters and the game would be a great platform to see some of these girls.

Mount Saint Charkes ended up getting a healthy sized win over a well-coached MacDuffie squad. The Mounties led with a well-balanced attack across the board that had multiple players on the board.

Below are a couple names from the game that merited attention.

Use code MBG30 for 30% off your first purchase of any subscription.

[player_tooltip player_id='282621' first='Jaizzy' last='Santiago'] (2026) | 5'4 PG | MSC

Santiago was the biggest standout from the contest. Her dynamic plays were on full display through the whole game. The athleticism combined with her shifty handle made her a tough cover for MacDuffie. Jaizzy's change of height and speeds had defenders backpaddling while she was able to control the tempo of the game. She was able to get clean looks off jump-shots while also sporting a soft touch floater in the lane. Not only was she getting baskets within the offense, but the 5'4 pg was getting dirty, fighting for offensive rebounds down low. The playmaking skills Jaizzy showed were phenomenal. She drew the attention of the defense and was able to hit teammates with direct passes in position to score. As a defender herself, she was one of the most impactful. She disrupted the flow of the offense serval times while flying to the ball.

Santiago finished with 12 points, 6 assists and a few steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1218000' first='Maya' last='Ocana-Saunders'] (2029) | PG | MacDuffie

Maya was one of the bright spots for the Mustangs. Her timely plays seemed to keep the team together at just the right time. She sported a nice-looking shot and made it clear she was willing to let it fly without hesitancy. Cross made a statement block that showcased that earlier stated aggressive mentality. She tracked down a fastbreak layup, timed her steps and punched the ball out of bounds, which gave her team so energy.

[player_tooltip player_id='967305' first='Dariia' last='Serednytska'] (2027) | 6'2 C | MSC

Dariia showed exactly why she's the #1 player at her position in her class. She was all over the glass and consistently giving her team second chance opportunities. Serednytska was an excellent option as a roller, from high post or from the block. She was creating off the dribble some too. The defense Dariia showed was on full display. She was able to deter players from the basket and was one of the reasons the score started to get lopsided. All game long she was impacting the Mustangs' best offensive players with stellar team defense.

Dariia finished the game with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='802977' first='Ava' last='Ayotte'] (2028) | 5'5 PG/CG | MSC

Ava was persistent getting to her spots whenever she decided to. Ayotte has exceptional speed up and down the court that was shown. Throughout the game, she was able to comfortably move around while helping facilitate. Ayotte advanced the ball to teammates quickly and was speeding up the pace of the game with the ball in her hands. She was also fairly aggressive attacking the Mustangs. The contact she was able to create at the rim was notable. Ava finished some tough layups , but also knocked down free-throws too.

Ayotte finished the game with 10 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1073903' first='Masha' last='Solovian'] (2026) | 6'4 PF | MSC

Masha was a big surprise from the game. The 6'4 junior was incredibly impactful. Solovian finished a good look from teammates and knocked down an astounding long-range 3-pointer. On defense, she had multiple amazing blocks on MacDuffie players. Solovian is a scary prospect with a ton of potential.
