OBU Team Camp: Notes Part 1

As a coach of a team attending and scout for PGH I would like to thank Coach Overton and his staff on a great camp. Quick guard that adds an up-tempo vibe along with some other guards giving the Lady Jackets a very athletic backcourt. Strong downhill driver that can get to a gap and hit you with the pull up. Also adds another skill player that can play some point with her ball handling skills. In one game Allison made 7 from the 3-point range. Next game it was a dose of mid-range pull ups and attacking the rim. Vocal leader on the floor that was circling up the team getting them in the right situations. Quick release that is ready to shoot on the catch. Shifty handles that can weave her way in and out of the press. Good up the court vision that found the open player in transition. A guard that understands how to get to the rim and avoid the block shot. Double threat coming off a ball screen reading the defense for the outside shot or downhill drive. One of those players that you must fight over the top on a ball screen. Showed a lot of bounce on the pull jumper releasing at a high lift. Deep range shooting that demands coverage stretching out the defense for driving lanes. At times she played the 1-4 spots on the court and is a capable scorer in any of those spots. The physical part comes on the drive to the rim. One of those players that enjoys the contact so she can adjust to what move she will use. You need to understand always where this shooting guard is at on the court. It will be only a matter of time before she gets hot. The game I watched that just happened. A roughly figure but I would say in the last 7 minutes of the game she scored 14 points. Hit 4 in a row from deep and then a steal for a layup. First a good outside shooter with range that knocked down several in a row. Second, downhill driver that can slide through the defense avoiding the charge on the way to the rim. Draw a bunch of fouls this weekend. Third, score with a tough post move off the block. Tough defender that because of physical presence defender the opposing team post.
