Positional Breakdown: 2022 Point Guards
Our updated rankings for the 2022 class is now out. We pushed the number of point guards ranked from 22 to 37 and saw a lot of movement in the Top 10. Below you can find the positional rankings for each player as well as a breakdown of the position overall. I’ll also highlight three players who have a good chance to move up by the end of the season.
We expanded our 2022 rankings to 125 from 100 and we added 15 point guards to the group of players. At the top of the sophomore lead guards, you have Hawthorne. She isn’t going to relinquish that spot anytime soon with the skill she has. Hawthorne is a top five player in the state and she sits alone at the top easily. At 2-4 you get a trio of solid point guards who can score the ball with Loewe, Williams, and Meadows. All three of them can play either guard spot but fit in at the point guard spot the best. They have proven that they have a great consistency to score the ball. Schaffer rounds out the top five point guards and she is another player with great court vision and ability to score it. She is a big reason that North Polk has potential to win the state championship this season. After Schaffer, you will see a collection of quick and fast small point guards who are both good passers and good defensively. As you get to the players ranked 20th or lower you see a solid collection of players who have yet to prove themselves with girls like Wallis, Moore, and Holtkamp. They all can play basketball in college but still need a year to continually develop skill to see what their collegiate ceiling is. There are a lot of good point guards throughout this entire class and I imagine we will see a lot of shifting as they develop especially in the 15-30 range.
Emma Rector Emma Rector 5'3" | PG Chariton | 2022 State IA finds herself at #16 in the point guards ranking and at #61 overall. She is a thin point guard but has a big presence on the court. She can score the ball over height and has been developing consistency with her outside shot. I look for Rector to continue to impress and her collegiate ceiling will continue to rise as she gains strength
Trinidee Moore Trinidee Moore 5'7" | PG Waverly-Shell Rock | 2022 State IA is a player whom I’ve liked for a long time and she’s gotten both stronger and taller over the past eight months. She has good court vision and holds the ability to score the ball at all three levels. I’d like to see her get a little more playing time for Waverly-Shell Rock. Moore is a player who could make a big jump in the next 3 months.
Kylie Rigby Kylie Rigby 5'6" | PG Ballard | 2022 State IA is a strong guard who doesn’t get a lot of run for a loaded Ballard team but she is a very solid prospect. Rigby has a profound ability to find the open man and the ball doesn’t stick in her hands. She has gotten a lot better scoring the ball over the past year and had a really nice summer. Rigby is going to make a small college very happy in a few years.
