Freshman 50: The top point guards of 2029, part 1

Following our release of the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman 50 a couple of weeks ago – the first ranking of Minnesota's Class of 2029 – Ally McGinnis and I took a look at some of the top post players in the class. This week we're continuing our examination of the Top 50 freshman prospects with a closer look at the point guards. With so many guards of all varieties in the initial rankings, there is no shortage of primary ball handlers to choose from. Because of this, we've decided to break down the list into two parts.   The top 20 prospects in the class have already been covered in depth following the release of the rankings so we won't revisit those point guards now. That would include #1 [player_tooltip player_id='872714' first='Beckett' last='Greenway'] of Providence Academy, #4 [player_tooltip player_id='994855' first='Izze' last='Austin'] of Minnetonka, #6 [player_tooltip player_id='939000' first='Kiera' last='Willis'] of Benilde-St. Margaret's, #9 [player_tooltip player_id='939003' first='Isabella' last='Deleeuw'] of Cretin-Derham Hall and #12 [player_tooltip player_id='941745' first='Nevaeh' last='Grosse'] of Eastview   Here are five more 2029 point guard prospects of note with five more to follow on Monday:    Beyer, a 5'7 crafty ball handler, is a next up in the long line of talented players to come out of Alexandria. The Cardinal freshman uses her speed, tight handle on the ball, and keen court vision to reliably find and deliver the ball to open teammates. She's a proficient three-point shooter who can just as easily get downhill and finish with soft touch at the rim. Riley excels at creating her own shot off the dribble, allowing her to score at multiple levels. On defense, she's all gas and no brakes. Her relentless pursuit of the ball, quick lateral movement, and active hands frequently lead to steals and fast break scoring opportunities.      Already battle tested at the varsity level, Reedy's game has been on the rise for several years now. The 5'7 point guard is lightning quick, has a high-level basketball IQ, and plays the game with confidence and poise. Chloe is a high-octane scorer that puts up large point totals on a consistent basis, on both the high school and AAU courts. She is an efficient outside shooter, has a tight handle on the ball, and knows how to push the pace. The Royalton freshman also excels as a passer and playmaker, adding to her already well-developed skillset. She will be a force to be reckoned with in Class AA this year.      Standing at 5'8 with plenty of length, Perry is one of the lenthier point guards in the freshman class. She's quick, plays with effortless athleticism, and consistently gives 100% on both ends of the floor. Though not the flashiest player, Stella keeps things simple, sticking to the areas where she truly excels. The Lakeville North freshman is a standout three-point shooter with a smooth, left-handed shot, and tireless perimeter defender that uses her active hands and lateral quickness to create stops and force turnovers. After graduating several seniors at the end of last season, Perry is going to be instrumental for the Panthers this year.      McCarney's game has evolved in recent years, with her gradually becoming more of a primary ball handler. The 5'6 point guard is quick and explosive, allowing her to excel in transition offense, drives to the basket, and as an outside defender. Gabby plays with seemingly endless energy and never hesitates to give her full effort on every single possession. The Lakeville South freshman has a well-developed set of skills, strong fundamentals, and stellar natural instincts on the court. McCarney's lateral quickness allows her to guard most players for 94 feet, often adding a bit of physicality to the mixl.     Standing at 5'7 with a long, wiry frame, Koles isn't going to blow you away with her size or strength. Where she truly shines is her energy, effort, and sheer speed. Nivaya is the type of player who brings a spark every time she steps on the floor. On the defensive end, it shows up in her super-active, high-pressure perimeter defense. With tremendous quickness, a bounce in her step, and lighting fast hands, the Lakeville North freshman poses a serious challenge for any ball handler that goes up against her. On offense, Koles is confident with the ball, makes passes on a dime, and is a knockdown long-range shooter.    PGH scout Ally McGinnis compiled these evaluations.
