Reagan Iovino | PG | Cuthbertson | 2023
As a freshman, Reagan quickly stacked up a list of accolades including Charlotte Observer All-Freshmen Team, Union County Hoops New Comer Team, Enquirer Journal 3rd Team, and was a Charlotte Observer #Big5 Performer multiple times. Observers are not lying when they say she has unlimited range. Her quick release with her shot makes it impossible to defend, and this led to her scoring 80 three pointers breaking the state record for 3 point field goals made as a freshman and shattering her school’s single season record. Three pointers aren’t her only strength as she finds herself making shots from all over the court. With these accolades, you are probably thinking she should be listed as a shooting guard, but her ball handling is unmatched by other freshman in her county. She has quick moves with the ball blowing by defenders and setting herself or her teammate up to score. As she continues to progress in high school, she will increase her court awareness but already shows an ability to get her teammates the ball for them to make a play. Her speed makes it hard for players trying to score or move the ball against her. She is certainly someone to keep your eye on!
Olivia McElroy | F | Hough | 2023
As a freshman, Olivia was tasked with guarding the opponents’ best player every game on her variety team. She uses her length and quickness to stop defenders from getting by her. She also seems to be a ball magnet on defense jumping in passing lanes to steal the ball ending the possession for her opponent. She is very hard to stop in transition creating fast break points for her team after her numerous steals. She was awarded 2019 East Lincoln All-Tournament because she also knows how to stretch the floor on offense. She can make shots from behind the arc, and she knows how to attack the paint hard. She shows a great basketball IQ when it comes to deciding to shoot, drive around a defender, or find an open teammate.
Tatum Bowen | W | Weddington | 2023
Tatum is one of the hardest workers that you will find, and she has already earned accolades like SCC All-Conference Team and Union County Hoops New Comer Team. As a freshman, she was another player who was tasked with guarding the opponent’s biggest threats. She is also aggressive on offense getting into the paint and passing at a high level to her teammates to create plays for them. Even at a young age, Tatum shows high confidence and mental toughness, especially when it comes to hitting crucial shots in a game. Her shot is impressive from all over the court and especially behind the arc. She is a consistent player on both sides of the ball which will certainly translate well to the next level. Look for her to continue to dominate and impress opponents as she continues her high school career.
Kaitlyn Walters | SG | Hickory Ridge | 2022
Kaitlyn has certainly used the quarantine time to get herself in good shape and enhance her current skills. She is a great defender showing that she can predict what other teams are trying to do to prevent them from being successful. She closes out on shooters making it difficult for others to score against her. She contributes multiple rebounds a game as well, especially on offense following her own shots or shots from her teammates. Additionally, she contributes her own baskets as well as assists when she gets her teammates involved. She will continue to thrive in high school.
Jade Washington | CG | Parkwood | 2023
Jade has a great shot from all over the court and even behind the arc. She is not scared to go inside, though, to grab rebounds or drive into the paint. She has a great ability to pull defenders towards her opening up one of her teammates to finish the play. She is certainly quick with the ball pushing the ball up the court for fast breaks. Her athleticism is also seen on the defensive side of the ball where she makes great catches in passing lanes which then turn into fast break points for her or her teammate. Her strength is on display taking contact from others and showing patience for how to make the best play. It is no surprise that her accolades include SCC All-Conference Team, Union County Hoops New Comer Team, and Union County Hoops 3rd Team.
