DMV High School Transfer Portal

Year after year, parents and players, for various reasons, make the difficult decision to move to a new program. What was once considered “free agency” has taken on a new name, the “transfer portal.” Player movement has become a major part of the basketball landscape at both the high school and club levels, as players search for situations they hope will be in their best interest. While every move comes with its own story and circumstances, some transfers can become program changers, reshaping the outlook for both the player and her new team. Here are five players who have entered the DMV High School Transfer Portal and will be wearing new uniforms this season.    Madyson is staying in the WCAC but is taking her talents to “The Pike,” transferring from St. Mary's Ryken to Bishop McNamara. There was a time when players couldn't freely transfer within the conference, but times have certainly changed. This move has the potential to benefit both sides. Sporting News had Bishop McNamara ranked as the #2 team in the country before adding Madyson, who is currently the #2 ranked sophomore in the state.   Madyson will benefit from joining a nationally recognized program with plenty of talent around her, while the Mustangs add even more depth to an already loaded perimeter. Coach Ron James has shown in the past that he can successfully manage multiple talented guards at the same time, and he will be challenged to do it again with a plethora of high-level perimeter players at his disposal.     Kamori's game has improved each time we have seen her. She continues to get stronger and has become more confident handling the ball. Her versatility is one of her biggest strengths, as she is a player who can contribute at each of the five positions. After spending the past couple of seasons at Rosedale Christian Academy, she will now attend Mercy.   The transition may not be a huge adjustment, as her former coach and several of her teammates will be joining her. It will, however, bring some immediate relevancy to her new high school. Kamori gives Mercy a versatile piece to build around and a player whose game continues to trend upward.     ayden has been a superstar at Glenelg Country School, and Coach Jonathan Scribner now gains a proven perimeter scorer and playmaker. Playing in the WCAC may require some adjustment to the level of competition, but Kayden is no stranger to high-level talent, having competed against many of these players on the club circuit and at showcases.   The Cadets also get a two-for-one with the addition of her talented younger sister, Jordyn, a rising sophomore. The moves not only help solidify the Cadets' position as one of the conference's elite programs, but will also give plenty of fans their first opportunity to see the McDaniel sisters on one of the area's biggest stages.     When The St. James Academy announced that it would be opening a school, it sent shockwaves across the region, with plenty of questions about where the players would come from. The Strivers quickly became a national powerhouse in year one, bringing in proven talent under highly respected head coach Tamika Dudley.   Mya comes over after spending last season at IMG Academy and should be able to contribute immediately. There should also be a level of familiarity, as much of the Strivers roster consists of her [program_tooltip program_id='815866' first='Team' last='Durant'] teammates. Adding Mya gives The St. James another dimension with a combination of length, athleticism and skill that is difficult to replicate.     Jozi made the move to the WCAC, and the Roadrunners had high hopes after adding a player who could help them take the next step in the conference. Unfortunately, a knee injury derailed her debut, and she will most likely miss the 2026-27 season.   Even from the sidelines, Jozi can still have an impact. She can use the time to get stronger while helping mentor some of the younger players in the program. There is also something to be gained from seeing the game from a different perspective, as watching from the sidelines can help a player develop an even better understanding of the game. I'm looking forward to a full recovery and expecting the return of Jozi 2.0 to be full of success.
