That has not stopped some players from improving their game without access to their high school gyms. Some players are playing for club basketball teams that have been competing on the summer circuit. We have some very talented players in Colorado that we have been watching out for rather playing this past season or playing in the summer circuit. These players are young with a high ceiling.
As they continue to grow their game, and improve they will add value to themselves opening eyes of a lot of coaches. Let’s take a look at some players in the 4A Northern League who will look to dominate.
Laura Gensert Laura Gensert 5'10" | CG Centaurus | 2023 State CO (Centaurus, 2023)
Gensert can finish around the rim with either hand and shows the ability to knock down shots from the midrange extended to behind the arc. She is the team’s leading scorer with 13.9 points per game on 127-for-356 (36 percent) shooting from the field. The ceiling is high for her as she comes into her sophomore year looking to be even more efficient from the floor. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, and Gensert put up a season average of 21 points, and scoring 347 in the entire season last winter. As a freshman, Gensert went 47 for 145 (32 percent) from behind the 3-point line.
Alexis Tapia (Greeley Central, 2022)
Tapia has great size and length to go with her athleticism, which makes her a tough matchup. She does a good job moving her feet on the defensive end when she is in the post and also one of the most efficient players in her league while averaging 12.4 points per game on 118-for-214 (55 percent) shooting from the floor. Tapia has made huge strides in her game and continues to develop each year. Her freshman year, she only was averaging 0.8 points per game on the varsity roster but also averaged 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game last winter. She scored a season high in points with 27 while going 10 for 15 (77 percent) from the field in 2019.
Amelia Solt Amelia Solt 5'4" | PG Thompson Valley | 2022 State CO (Thompson Valley, 2022)
Solt can create a lot of energy when she is on the floor. She is a player who plays with a lot of passion and can create scoring opportunities for herself, as well as her team. A willing shooter who can let it fly from anywhere on the court and off the bounce, Solt averaged 12.2 points per game on 103-for-273 (38 percent) shooting from the floor. Solt also has good foot speed, getting herself in passing lanes to get steals. She also averaged 2.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game in 2019. She scored 305 points on the season and had a season high of 25 points on 9-for-14 (64 percent) shooting from the floor. Solt will look to add more value to the team as a incoming junior.

Martinez is a player with good awareness when she is on the floor on both ends. She does well anticipating and getting hands on steals. Standing at 5-foot-7, Martinez is a good rebounding guard coming up with a double-double in an early-season game this past year. She averaged 11.8 points per game on 112-for-283 (40 percent) shooting from the floor. Martinez also shows the ability to stretch teams out with her ability to knock down shots from deep. Martinez scored a season high in points with 21 in two different contests this past season.
