Boone finished the year 13-9, and ended their season with a loss to Gilbert in the regional tournament. Even though the season didn’t go how everyone wanted it to, our eighth ranked prospect in the 2021 class had a pretty solid season.
Emma Dighton, a 5’8 wing, led Boone in scoring at 13.7 points a game and also added in 49 steals to lead the team. Dighton is a really solid wing who has a good frame with strength. She can hit the outside shot but she also has the ability to get to the rim and score. Isn’t one to shy away from contact as she gets to the rim and will finish in your face. She’s quick guard, but isn’t quite that fast yet. As she gets older she will gain that foot speed needed to beat other wings down the floor with the ball. Within Dighton’s game, you are able to see a lot of strength’s that most sophomores don’t show. She also rebounds the ball really well for someone that plays primarily on the perimeter.
“I would say my strengths would be that I am a versatile scorer,” Dighton said. “I’ve developed more of an inside game and figured out what the better shot is. I get my teammates involved and always lift them up. I am always locked in and work hard every minute I can play.”
Dighton does tend to get a little turnover prone at times, and will have the ball in her hand a lot next year. She does have good court awareness but is still working on her passing and decision making. Once she takes that next step and cuts down her turnovers, which are a huge problem in the first place, she will vastly improve. With the versatility that she offensively and defensively, she could become a hot commodity.
Dighton says that this year was a roller coaster but is looking forward to competing and improving over the summer and into next high school season.
“Individually has been up and down, but overall I have played games where I have done great scoring and other where I have done great passing and rebounding,” Dighton said. “As a team we have also had ups and downs but overall we all knew the end goal and we always played as hard as we could which is the most important thing I believe.”
Running with All Iowa Attack in the summer will provide dividends for Dighton as she looks to improve her game and take it to the next level. For someone with the potential that she has, if she takes a step forward this season you should expect that Boone will greatly improve next year as well.
