There were stars and big time performances in the paint throughout the weekend. The class of 2023, in particular had 4 post players that I saw stand out. Let’s take a look at some of the 2023 players that were especially productive in the paint this at the event.
Take a look at Part 1 and Part 2 of our productive perimeter players at the Victory Region Finals below:
Victory Region Finals – Perimeter Productivity Part 1
Faith Carson Faith Carson 6'4" | C Buchanan | 2023 State MI (2023, 6-5, UTS Elite 2023, Buchanan)
Carson has all the tools needed to be elite at basically any level. This weekend, she was a constant threat to block shots in the lane. This meant that offenses had to work around her whenever she was in the game. It was very tough for defensive players to fight with her for position under the rim. Carson created a boatload of 2nd chance offensive opportunities for herself and for her teammates. She rebounded high and overtop of the other players, making life difficult for opponents.
Audrey Sabol Audrey Sabol 6'0" | C Nokomis | 2023 State IL (2023, 6-1, Illinois Predators 2022, Nokomis)
Sabol was playing up, but it certainly looked like she’d been doing it for a while. She looked completely comfortable in the 2022 division. Sabol rebounds quickly off the rim and goes and gets it high instead of waiting for the ball to drop to her. If she snagged an offensive rebound, she didn’t bring it back down or put it on the floor. Sabol put the ball back up immediately, not giving the defense a chance to knock it away. She did a great job playing tall and that made her very effective at the Victory Region Finals.
Rachel Williams Rachel Williams 5'8" | PF Canton | 2023 State MI (2023, 5-9, Hype Athletics 2023 Red, Canton)
Williams may not be the tallest post player, but she goes at the game with guts and heart. She puts in work, going 100% for every second that she’s on the court. Williams really battles with taller post players and seems to almost always come out on top. She walls up and stands her ground on defense. Williams is very good at fronting taller players in the paint, but can also stay strong behind them and not give up ground. Williams has an eye for when an opponent is going to go up with the shot, and she isn’t shy about sending it back to where it came.
