The exciting weekend of basketball led to the attention of on the rise players and significant role players.
1. Sai Johnson- Sophomore- #20- Booker T. Washington High School
We saw strong rebounding and gritty effort for two days from undersized post, Sai Johnson. She is physical and plays very hard. She finished well around the rim and also proved to handle contact with four and-1 plays throughout the Tournament. Her post defense was solid and she made impressive stops against post players bigger than her. She attacks well,on straight line drives to the basket. The most impressive thing about Johnson was her rebounding ability. She is relentless on the boards both offensively, and defensively, and makes smart outlet passes as well.
2. Carrigan Hill- Freshman- #32- Booker T. Washington High School
Hill was an exciting PG to watch throughout the tournament. A quick PG with great ball handling skills and a nice 3-point shot. She plays with much passion and enthusiasm which makes her a fun teammate and fierce competitor. The freshman guard and ex-soccer player has great footwork which allows her to excel at on ball defense. Her ability to turn and stay in front of opponents defensively makes her a pesky defender. Her fierceness is what led to her game winning last seconds shot against Shawnee in the Regional Championship.
3. Aubrie Megehee- Sophomore- #10- Shawnee High School
The Sophomore from Shawnee has a bright future with the Lady Wolves. She is a strong PF and has a great posts presence. She cuts and moves well with ought the ball and makes good, strong flashes in the post with great post positioning. She is a good rebounder and runs the floor hard. She plays passing lanes well and causes lots of deflections.
- 4. Brionna Lowmack- Senior- #3- Sapulpa High School
This girl has some serious speed and can guard almost anyone you put in front of her. Lowmack is a “defensive specialists” for the Lady Chieftains, but don’t sleep on her offensively because she can knock down the open 3 flawlessly. Lowmack usually guards the best player from the opposing team. She does well picking up full court and can pressure and frustrate ball handlers. She wears down PG’s often due to her effortless speed.
5. Temira Poindexter- Sophomore- #21- Sapulpa High School
Shenis a young player with a nice size and height. She runs the floor and rebounds well. Her size makes her able to play inside but she also able to step outside and knock down shots and handle the ball a little. Her length makes her a strong defensive presence and she blocked quite a few shots in the semi-final game vs. Booker T. Her back to the basket game can improve but she has a nice shot from short corner that she loves. She can shoot the 3.
6. Ashley Kasterke- Senior- #5- Shawnee High School
The 6ft senior played well throughout the Regional Tournament. One of the most impressive things about her game was defensive desire to jump passing lanes. She deflected many of the Lady Hornets passes and also had numerous steals vs Enid. She also shoots the ball really will, both mid range and 3 pointers. Kasterke plays up tempo and loves to get out and run on fast breaks.
7. Emery Williams- Junior- #3- Booker T. Washington High School
She may be one of the smallest on the team, but she is a key player for the Lady Hornets. She picks up the opposing ball handler, full court, the entire game. She is speedy and has stamina that keeps her defensive intensity up for mostly the whole game. She is smart and plays for steals when necessary but is content with working and wearing down her opponents cause them to make mistakes for her. She can hit the open three and looks to attack gaps.
