Continue ReadingAs we continue our wrap-up of the Iowa State Tournament, we are unveiling our evaluations for players in the junior class. Among all classes we have 139 total evaluations with 59 of those in the junior class. This isn’t an exhaustive list of everyone in the class at the event, but rather who played well or for extended minutes that we were able to get an eye on. This is Part III of IV.
Kori Wedeking – 5’9 G – Clarksville
Wedeking is an interesting player because of her ability to handle it in the open floor but also the ability to get others involved. She wasn’t knocking down shots like I had expected her to do but was a playmaker for her team. Crashes the boards hard from the lead guard spot and has a decent looking shot. I really think that there is some potential here but needs to move a little faster on defense.
Chloe Ross – 5’6 G – Clarksville
Ross is an off ball guard who looks to shot it off of the catch quite a bit. She has the ability to get into the lane where she throws up a shot that usually finds its way into the basket. I do think that she needs to tighten up her handle and get a better grasp on all of the little things though.
Jade Hay – 5’6 G – North Mahaska
Hay has a nice looking shot and I think she can play really well when she wants to do so. Gets a little lost on defense at times and body language isn’t that great. I think that she can be a really solid small school guard with the ability to handle it and orchestrate an offense. Just needs to find a higher gear.
Cheyenne Shaw – 5’9 G – North Mahaska
Shaw is a thin guard who has the ability to shoot the ball pretty well but she can also get to the basket. I think that she is going to struggle with pressure but off the ball she is really good. Ability to get to the rim and dish it out to the open man.
Kassidi Steel – 5’10 W – North Mahaska
Steel has the ability to get into the lane on the drive and finish even though she isn’t one of the most athletic kids out there. She actually has the ability to turn the corner pretty well with the ball but struggles at times of handling pressure on ball. Good court vision allows her to make plays.
Emma Tyrrel – 5’10 F – North Mahaska
Tyrrel is a skilled forward who has the ability to score a lot at the basket. She is very aggressive with the ball but is restricted to playing pretty close to the basket. Has the ability to turn the corner to the basket but can’t really shoot it. Able to handle it and have it in transition. Just needs to add a jumper to her game to expand it.
Zoey Baylor – 5’6 G – CAM
Baylor struggled a little bit handling the ball and with ball security but can really score it. Has an odd shot but it works for her as she hit a few jumpers in traffic. Hard working kid and plays with a really solid motor. Can tell that she just gets it.
Megan Morenz – 5’10 F – Newell-Fonda
Morenz is a pretty versatile post player for Newell-Fonda. She can shoot the ball a little bit but she also has the ability to get into the paint and score. She is probably the best right now at playing in the high post when she can flash down to the block. At times I thought she got a little lost on the defensive side of the ball in the half court game.
Miranda Peters – 5’10 W – Marquette Catholic
I wasn’t really sure what to think of Peters after this week. She can score the ball, but doesn’t really shoot it or move that well. Solid instincts around the ball but just seems to play a little bit more free than I would like to see. Just a little slow to react as the plays are happening.
Tori Michel – 6’ C – Marquette Catholic
Michel is a player who can rebound the ball at a high level and can move around pretty well. I don’t think that the offense is there quite yet but she plays with a lot of skill and a really solid motor. She’s going to be someone that with a bit of offense should be able to fit in at a small school.
Megan Eisenman – 5’4 G – West Hancock
Eisenman is a stocky guard who can shoot it pretty well. Isn’t going to be a playmaker on the offensive end but rather an off ball guard who can shoot it. Is going to struggle to defend quick guards at the next level because of the foot speed.
Amanda Chizek – 6’ C – West Hancock
Chizek is a brute of a player down low. While she isn’t going to beat you with athleticism, she is just so strong and has the ability to score on anyone. Moves well for her size and can score the ball very effectively. Tons of skill along with her rebounding ability puts her floor pretty high.
Mahayla Faust – 5’9 W – West Hancock
Faust is a quick wing who has the ability to score the ball fairly well. Does a solid job of taking the pressure off of Leerar so that she can do work off of the ball to get open. Scoring ability at all three levels and a solid but unspectacular defender.
Shateah Wetering – 5’11 W – Montezuma
Wetering is a very athletic and fluid wing who is a tremendous playmaker for her teammates. She doesn’t pack the scoring punch that I would like to see right now but you can tell the instincts are there. A really solid player who is built very well for the next level. Once her scoring becomes more consistent and she looks to do so, her game is going to take off. Committed to Iowa.
Shelby Conger – 5’9 G – Montezuma
Conger is a smart guard who is a good shooter off of the catch. She can knock down the open shots and also has the ability to get to the rim a little bit. Isn’t going to be the best player on the floor but more so a player who compliments those around her.
