Throughout the past 4 years, Averie Ryan Averie Ryan 5'10" | PF Johnston | 2024 State IA has come off the bench of her Johnston Dragons program and it makes sense. Ryan is skilled with size and a high motor but the prospects that were put in front of her, are all D1 players for the most part. So whenever Ryan came into the game, she knew it was important to leave her mark. She did such a good job of this that she received an offer from a handful of collegiate programs out of this State to compete next year, eventually picking Grand View as her future home. What Ryan brings to the floor is interesting. Like I said, she has size and skill. She just needs to continue to grow her game, much like everyone else I’ll mention in this article. She has natural strength compared to most and she moves really well. I’m excited to see what she can bring to that Viking’s program over the next 3-4 years. If it’s anything like high school, she is going to thrive.

won’t be the tallest player on her Johnston team this season but that shouldn’t stop her from seeing the floor a good amount and being a main contributor at the Forward position. Ryan, a Grand View Women’s Basketball Commit, has put together some nice seasons over the past few years for the Dragons but this upcoming should be their most fun yet. With the addition of

in the middle, this will free up Ryan to move around a little bit more. She is going to have the chance to show what she can do at the 4 spot throughout some games this season and if she is successful there, that’s where I would imagine she will play the rest of the season. Now at the collegiate level, it could be different depending on what type of recruiting Class is coming in around her. There is a lot of determining factors that can make/break teams but as long as the players stay dedicated and work hard, it’ll all level out in the end. Ryan works hard so I’m not concerned. In my opinion, she will thrive no matter the situation when she is on the court.

is going to be a big piece to the puzzle that is the Johnston Dragons this winter. Ryan is another player that will return from last year for the Dragons and see some significant minutes while doing so. To some, the addition of

this season means that Ryan would play less but I actually think the opposite. If they can figure out a lineup where both of those players are in, at the 4-5 positions, it’s going to be a big advantage near the hoop, literally. As for the future, Ryan will continue her college basketball career at Grand View University in Des Moines after this senior year. We will see if this is a good fit for both parties ultimately over time but for now, the Dragons have a state championship to get back to.

An individual that isn’t talked about enough because of the insanely skilled players around her is Averie Ryan Averie Ryan 5'10" | PF Johnston | 2024 State IA . Ryan is an athletic forward with a good mixture of size and strength. She moves well off of the ball and understands when is the best time to bring her defender out to the perimeter compared to when she should sit in the lane and post up. As of most recent, Ryan was offered by Grand View University in Des Moines to compete at the college level after her senior year. I’m not exactly sure what her plan is but there is a few colleges out there that I can think of that would be able to use a talent like Ryan’s. Like they always say, “You can’t teach size.”
