For several of these players, they are going into their junior or senior year of high school ball and have already figured out what they want out of the college “experience”. Below are five players that have either recently received offers to play at the college level or have recently committed to play at the college level in the near future.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Ava Locklear Ava Locklear 5’11” | SF Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA and her Clear Creek Amana high school team were labeled as one of my favorites to win the 4A state title this season. The only way that is going to be possible is if Locklear can have another great season at the Forward position. Locklear is a versatile playmaker and athlete on the floor that does a little bit of everything for her Clippers team and I’m expecting no less this time around. As of most recent, Locklear has committed to continue her college career at Saginaw Valley State. After putting together an AAU season to remember, Locklear was getting a good amount of looks from around the midwest. In the end, the Cardinals got a real competitor and ultimately, a steal out of this 2024 class in Iowa. Now that her future is locked in, I’m sure Locklear can’t wait to start her senior season.
Averie Ryan Averie Ryan 5’10” | PF Johnston | 2024 State IA is going to be a big piece to the puzzle that is the Johnston Dragons this winter. Ryan is another player that will return from last year for the Dragons and see some significant minutes while doing so. To some, the addition of Amani Jenkins Amani Jenkins 6’2″ | C Johnston | 2025 State IA this season means that Ryan would play less but I actually think the opposite. If they can figure out a lineup where both of those players are in, at the 4-5 positions, it’s going to be a big advantage near the hoop, literally. As for the future, Ryan will continue her college basketball career at Grand View University in Des Moines after this senior year. We will see if this is a good fit for both parties ultimately over time but for now, the Dragons have a state championship to get back to.
I had the chance of watching Eva Solseth Eva Solseth 5’9″ | CG Southeast Polk | 2024 State IA compete a few weeks ago. During this time Solseth displayed that she has a great understanding for space and her own abilities on the floor. She was matched up against college-level competition at the Truman State Elite camp and holding her own. She was a player that all the coaches and staff were talking about while competing in competitive play because of her demeanor and calculated tactics when she had the basketball in her hands. Solseth will join up with Averie Ryan Averie Ryan 5’10” | PF Johnston | 2024 State IA and Grand View University once her high school season comes to an end. I’m interested how Solseth will fit into the system there at GV but no matter, if she keeps her head down and works hard, she is going to be successful anywhere.
I have only had the chance to see Kyra Taylor Kyra Taylor 5’9″ | PF Davenport North | 2024 State IA compete 2 or 3 times over the past few seasons but every time I see her, she seems to get exponentially better than the time before. Taylor is a 5’10 forward with a balanced mixture of athleticism and skill. She moves down the floor in a flash with her big strides and is efficient when she catches near the basket. This winter at Davenport North high school, Taylor is going to be a big part of their success. A program that has two Top 50 players in the COUNTRY in Divine Bourrage Divine Bourrage 6’0″ | CG Davenport North | 2025 State IA and Journey Houston Journey Houston 5’11” | CG Davenport North | 2025 State IA , will need a third player on the court to help them out when things get tight. After this high school season concludes Taylor is committed to attend McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. This program will take the high motor of Taylor and put it to good use. If they can unlock her full potential, everyone should watch out because I don’t think we have even gotten close to what that could be just yet.
While having so many players in each class sometimes there are some that are missed and it is not intentional by any means. One of those players that I wouldn’t say has been “missed”, exactly, is one that should be talked about more throughout the state of Iowa and that is Audrey Kosky Audrey Kosky 6’1″ | PF Storm Lake | 2024 State IA . I watched Kosky for the first time at the Truman State Elite camp a few weeks ago and I was impressed. She is a coordinated player with size and balance on the floor. She has a decent handle with an above average motor when it comes to rebounding and playing physical. Kosky has recently received an offer to play at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa. I’m not sure what other interest Kosky has received up to this point but I think she is going to have a few choices at the end of her high school career, as to where she would like to play in college. We will have to wait and see though.
