I already looked at the 2021 and 2022 players that caught my eye, so today to wrap up this series, I will look at the 2020s who had a good weekend that I saw.
Again, I was limited as to who I saw, but these kids performed well in the games that I attended.
Class of 2020 standout players
Gabrielle Stare, 5-9 Cincinnati Angels Platinum: I have seen this player progress through her career, and now that she is going into her senior year, she has really grown her game. Gabby is a tremendous floor leader and knows where to be. She has a very high basketball IQ and looks to get everyone else involved.
Offensively, she is a very solid shooter from the perimeter with outstanding range. She runs the floor well on the break. Defensively, she is a smart player and I expect her senior year to be very special.
Sarah Earhart, 6-2 Dayton Lady Hoopstars Elite: She can shoot from the perimeter with good range, or put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Sarah can be a mismatch problem with her ability to score from either the inside or outside. Defensively, she can change shots, and cause problems in the paint. Excited to take that next step this summer to make herself more noticeable for college coaches.
Rebounds very well. Runs the floor really hard and is aggressive attacking. Could get stronger which would help multiple facets of her game.
Ariel Jenkins, 6-0 Michigan Crossover 11th: Only saw her for a half, but realized quickly how good she is. Physically strong player who can control the point, or step out with range. Good footwork and can use either hands well. Good handles, and athletic kid who can make an impact anywhere on the floor. Puts herself in position to be an effective player.
Hope Sivori, 5-5 Nike Lady Gymrats 17U Silver: what can you say about this kid. Really liked her complete game. Controls the tempo and runs the show for her team, outstanding point guard with stellar handles. Can push the ball north-to-south in a hurry and her transition game is top notch.
She can score from the perimeter, shoot the three, find the open player or take it to the rim.
Alana Belknap, 5-10 Team Huddle Black: good shooter from the perimeter with length and frame to add weight at the next level. Does a nice job with her back to the basket on the block against smaller guards. Good in transition and has solid handles.
Savannah Pavoni, 5-8 Huntsman Elite Black: a true point guard, who has the ability and IQ to play the 1-4 spots at the high school level, and 1-3 at the college level. She is a great passer, floor general, tough defender and can score off the dribble. She has the ability to finish at the rim with both hands, has a high IQ, defends well and is a great leader.
Abby Jones, 5-10 Hunstman Elite Black: played the 2-5 spots over the weekend, and is a natural wing or stretch 4. Abby is a great shooter, tenacious rebounder, high IQ and defends well. Abby always plays hard and is a natural leader.
