It was a big weekend for Juntunen, who dropped 72 points for Minnesota Stars Lodermeier at the Meltdown. The 5’8 guard (pictured in the banner photo above) scored in seemingly every possible way. She found openings off of backdoor cuts, effectively used ball screens to get open on the perimeter, blew by defenders on drives to the hoop, and even forced a steal and picked up a transition layup right before the halftime buzzer. There’s no question that Alexa’s willingness to push the pace and ability to handle the ball under pressure were major assets for her team this weekend. On the other end of the floor, the Rogers senior kept the volume on high, using her speed and active hands to shut down the perimeter.

Juntunen did all sorts of things right on Sunday. The Rogers sophomore made big defensive plays, using her quick hands to pick off passes and run the fast break. Alexa also showed her ability to thread the needle and find the open teammate in the paint, on a cut, or out on the perimeter. As the day went, on the 5’8 guard became more assertive. She focused more creating her own offense, attacking the basket from the perimeter and easily getting through contact in the paint. Juntunen played a major role for Rogers in her 9th grade season and hopes to lead the team to more success this winter.
