Downey is another of the notable names from the 5A Goose Creek backcourt that the Gators will throw at the opposition this season. She competed in all 28 of the Gators’ contests last season while averaging 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. The sophomore season for Downey will be her third at the high school varsity level. She ran with Palmetto 76ers during her spring and summer of grassroots ball and is a multi-sport athlete that has also competed in cross country in addition to basketball. Downey was one of four from the class of 2029 on last season’s Gators team.

Downey is another that will not have a long trek to get to the North Charleston Athletic Center as she also the black and Vegas gold of 5A Goose Creek. We at Prep Girls Hoops recently got a glimpse of Downey at Brookland-Cayce as she participated in the A1 Hoops Fall League camp last weekend. Downey first played at the high school varsity level as an eighth grader and competed in all 28 contests for the Gators last season. She averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game throughout the 2025-26 campaign. Downey spent the spring and summer on the grassroots circuit with Palmetto 76ers .

The Gators of 5A Goose Creek were well-represented this past Saturday at Brookland-Cayce. Downey represents another in the Gators’ backcourt that is part of the winning formula that has been concocted in the Lowcountry. She is another that has been playing at the high school varsity level since she was an eighth grader and her play is indicative of someone with more experience than the typical sophomore. Downey competed in all 28 of Goose Creek’s contests last season and averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest. Getting out in transition and connecting on 3-point attempts are among the strong elements to her game.

A solid three-point shooter that has a high percentage shot. Downey can knock down the three ball with ease. She is very confident and accurate with her perimeter shot. She also does a good job of attacking the basket and is strong enough to be able to handle contact. Her aggressive play is going to keep turning heads.

This kid has a lot of versatility to her game. She will do whatever is asked of her on the court and play any position offensively or defensively. Some possessions she was bringing the ball down the court and setting up the offense. Other times she was getting on the wing and knocking down jumpers. Defensively, she got mismatched on much bigger opponents in the paint, but did a great job of working to get in front to make it a difficult pass to the post. Look forward to watching her continued success.
