While she may not draw the same level of fanfare as a Division 1 commit like Maren Day Maren Day 6'1" | CG/SF Wayzata | 2027 State MN , Doherty has been gradually climbing the ranks at Wayzata for several years now. Following her standout junior season, the 5’10 guard has been a constant presence for Fury 2027 S40 this spring. Over the weekend Ava impressed with her consistent motor and effort level, particularly on the defensive end. Keeping her head on a swivel, Doherty sees the whole floor, allowing her to be effective in help-side defense and anticipate where the ball is headed at any given time. On the other end of the floor Ava is constantly creating movement off the ball, doesn’t force contested shots, and is a consistent finisher at the rim. She picked up an offer from Hamline University this past Saturday.

This young lady competes on every play and never backs down from a challenge! Ava’s eyes are on constant alert, looking for her teammates and hooking them up for easy buckets! Love her footwork, particularly how she uses her pivot foot and slithers her way to the rim for two! (Below with ball)

Ava was one of my favorite players to cover at the Sophomore ID Camp. She was consistent throughout the entire day. Like Toni Fisher Toni Fisher 5'11" | CG Prior Lake | 2027 State MN , I’m not sure if she ever gets tired. She has a quick first step and gets to the basket in the blink of an eye. The lefty loves to push the pace and pass after pass were right where her teammates could just catch the ball and lay it the basket. When she wasn’t running circles around the defense, Ava would show off her outside shot just to keep them honest. Doherty was a problem on the defensive side as well making things very uncomfortable for her opponents using her quick feet and anticipation to disrupt the offense.
