Expert Analysis
Ally McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
#20 – Not one to demand the spotlight, Hurley quietly put together an impressive body of work with North Tartan EYBL over the summer. A poised, no-nonsense contributor, the Wayzata freshman has a robust fundamental skillset. She’s a talented and unselfish passer, strong rebounder, and generates offense in a variety of ways. Where Makayla really shines, though, is her defense. Both quick and lengthy, Hurley is a disruptive defender who can protect the rim, and force turnovers with ease. Her outstanding athleticism and the flat-out effort she brings on each and every possession makes the 5’11 guard one of the toughest matchups in the freshman class.

Hurley (pictured above) gave one of the most dominant performances of any player at the Freshman Showcase, hands down. From the first defensive possession, she began putting on a clinic. The 5’11 guard used her immense length and athleticism to disrupt her opponents, blocking countless shots and forcing turnovers left and right. And when tasked with producing on offense, Makayla was eager to show what she’s capable of. Crafty with the ball in her hands, a skilled finisher at the rim, and a strong passer too, Hurley got the job done in pretty much every area you could think of. The Wayzata freshman is yet another player in the Trojans’ program who has D1 potential written all over.
