Recruiting Update: A Flurry of Commitments

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Each year when the AAU season comes to a close, we typically see a flood of players making their final decisions for where they will continue their basketball careers at the college level. This year has been no different. Since the travel ball season began back in April, there has been an avalanche of players from across the state making their verbal commitments, with more and more players making the call each week. Today we'll be breaking down the last few months of recruiting news.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's worth making a disclaimer here that while we have done our best to compile every commitment made by Minnesota players in recent months, it's entirely possible that we've missed some. Apologies in advance for that! It's also worth noting that this list reflects college commitments made from April 1st until today, August 26th.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Some big names</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Most notable on this list are the household names. This summer, two top 10 ranked prospects in the Prep Gilrs Hoops MInnesota class of 2027 have made their college choice. As of today, five players in the top 10 remain uncommitted. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ranked #7 among the incoming seniors, [player_tooltip player_id='377584' first='Ava' last='Cupito'] averaged 14.6 points per game in her junior season at Hopkins. The 5'10 combo guard has chosen Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton as the next stop in her basketball journey. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another highly anticipated college announcement, #1 ranked 2027 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='377583' first='Mya' last='Wilson'] announced her verbal commitment to Ohio State earlier this month. Leading the way for Hill-Murray last season, the 6'1 guard averaged 25 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game in her junior campaign.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>A surge in Division 2</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's no secret that the recruiting landscape is changing for kids coming out of high school. Over the past five years, we've seen NIL and the NCAA transfer portal drastically alter the way high major schools handle the recruiting process. Now with the NCAA's new five-year eligibility model set to take effect this year, things are changing once again. While the long-term effects of the rule change are still unknown, we're already seeing more and more high level recruits, kids who would have been D1 players a decade ago, opt to play Division 2. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>By the numbers</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This list features 29 players from across Minnesota who have recently announced their college commitment. Of that, the majority are incoming seniors, but a handful are 2026 graduates who waited a bit longer to make their choice. Three athletes on this list will play college basketball at the D1 level, and one more D1 commit has opted to play volleyball instead. A whopping 19 players on this list are headed to D2 schools, with 18 of those players headed to schools in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference or NSIC. Four more players are headed to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), an NJCAA Division 2 school in Mason City, Iowa. One on this list will play at D3 level, and one more is headed to an NAIA school. Finally, two prospects listed here will play another sport in addition to basketball when they reach the college level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is our full list of recent college commitments.
