About Avery
Expert Analysis
EJ Arocho | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
One of the best players of the entire event on Friday, Avery did it all to get the Jags past a determined MAC team. She scored the ball inside and out, aggressively driving to the basketball and stepping into 3-pointers with confidence. She put a body on the opponent and imposed aggressive defense that made a big difference down the stretch. Vocal, accountable and fiery. All in all, a tremendous competitor.

Avery Bollin Avery Bollin 6'3" | PF Dexter Southfield | 2029 State New E (2029) | PF |
A special talent that’s carved her own path despite playing up in the past and with some stellar upper end talent. Bollin’s efficient inside-out, 2-way game brings tremendous value plus she can be leaned on in crucial points in the game. Despite her being as young as she is, Avery plays more like an experienced upperclassman rather than freshman. That’s not surprising though considering she already has considerable time playing competitive varsity minutes. It’s hard not to have Bollin leading this class; it’s clear there’s a difference between Avery and her peers when sharing the same floor.

Avery is off to a strong start to her freshman season at Dexter, showing advanced feel on both ends of the floor. She has a soft touch and good footwork in the paint, and on a loaded roster she plays within the system, scoring when opportunities present themselves and making the extra pass when needed. Defensively, her long reach allows her to block and alter shots around the basket, and she has also shown the ability to step out to the deep mid-range and three-point line to stretch the floor and knock down shots.

Avery combines her height with the ability to put the ball on the floor and get all the way to the basket, using her strength to carve out space. In the post she has a deep arsenal of moves and finishes softly with either hand. She stays patient on the block, never letting defenders speed her up, and she keeps the ball high so smaller players have no chance to strip it away.

Bollin is unquestionably the #1 player in the class. She’s been playing up for quite a while and possesses a well-polished skillset. The multifaceted talent merits all the attention she gets. Most players in the class just aren’t as well-rounded as Bollin and also can’t directly affect the game from multiple areas the way she does. Avery has a beautiful stroke from outside while also heavily contributing from the high post, down to the block. She sports a nice touch around the rim while also being able to accurately kick out to diving teammates or shooters relocating. The paint defense she provides is sterling and she acts as a natural deterrent at times.

Bollin had herself a weekend; she was dominate on the boards, finished underneath, showing defenders different looks on her layups, provided staple defense downlow and stretched the floor with dynamic 3-point shooting. The lefty can use both hands, but she made her living using her strong hand because opposing players had trouble stopping her. The defenders just couldn’t stop her from getting clean looks from her sweet spots. Her inside-out attributes are elite, especially considering she’s just an 8th grader. There just aren’t many ’29 players that can affect the game alongside college ready prospects like herself. Avery’s individual skills shined bright, plus she made others around her better. Despite the young age, it’s clear she understands and processes the game at a high-level.

Avery Bollin Avery Bollin 6'3" | PF Dexter Southfield | 2029 State New E (2029) | 6’3 PF | Dexter Southfield
The undisputed #1 ranked player in this class is even skilled enough to be within the top 5 players in 2028. Her game is incredibly advanced for the age and she’s been getting plenty of high school experience while playing big minutes for Dexter. Her level production at the forward spot requires urgent adjustments from defenses. Avery can be a dominant inside & out scorer that offenses can revolve around, but she also can fill a role when the time calls for it. Defense is where Bollin brings astounding value. There’s not much she can’t do; she gets out to challenge guards in pick & roll coverage plus she holds down the paint. One thing that stands out is how many shot deflections that get kept alive with her vertical challenges. Bollin comes from a big basketball family and there’s no surprise she’s found a ton of success early on. There’re not any girls in the class with such high major offers at the moment, so that should speak to her stature.

The 6’3 adaptable forward could absolutely be the leading player in the upcoming 2029 rankings. Bollin is a young player that has plenty of experience playing with scholarship level players already, along with having enough firepower herself to help carry teams to victories. She can dominate on the ball, but she’s just as effective without the ball in her hand too. Avery sets screens and dives to open areas so creators can find her in the unconsumed spaces. The polished forward works well with just about any skillset, so she’s easily insertable to various lineups. The shooting is sound, especially coming from someone with such a strong frame and major size. Her foundation is set beneath her when she shoots the ball plus the follow through keeps defender from impacting the shot. Her physique combined with the necessary agility around the painted areas allow her to be such considerable defender too. Bollin can play strongside or weak side and even avoids heavy foul trouble by playing vertical, a skill even many older bigs can tend to struggle with. Her presence alone deters many aggressors in the lane. There’re not many players that bring such overwhelming value as Avery does in the class. Bollin is a special type of player. What other ’29 players are pulling in high major Division 1 offers at this time?
