I hadn’t seen Werfal in person from the end of the past grassroots season until my first weekend of AAU tournaments. Since I saw her again, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by her growth. Werfal has bought into her role with her Purple Aces group and has done a solid job of limiting aspects of her game that held her back in the past, which says a lot about who she is as a person and her mindset. Every time I’ve seen her this AAU season, I’ve liked her more than I did before.

I’m still amazed at how much Werfal was able to do at Appleton North last season. The Lightning turned their previous struggles around and was the ‘best of the rest’ behind the three runaways in the FVA a season ago. Werfal was an excellent offensive option and found ways to keep defenses on their toes every time she stepped onto the floor. The rising sophomore was among the team leaders in every statistical category, and she should be able to build off the foundations she set for herself and her team over the past year.

this past season. Since I’ve been around, the Lightning has been in the bottom half of the FVA, and there’s no shame in that because it’s so good, but Werfal became one the most productive players in the 2027 class in the toughest conference in the state, and helped lead the Lightning to a fourth-place finish in the FVA. What she did as the focal point of an offense in the FVA was unbelievable.
