She took a DHO straight to the basket for a speedy finish and split gaps off the dribble to force defenders to put her on the free throw line. Bella scored many layups off backdoor cuts. One of her best was a quick catch-and-release finish with a soft touch off the glass before the defender could alter her shot. She scanned the floor, used lateral dribbles to keep defenders on their heels, switched hands with ease, and converted tough layups in traffic. After using a nice high-rip move in the paint to force a foul, she buried back-to-back free throws with confidence. Bella stepped outside to drain a smooth wing three and generated steals on the defensive end.

This sophomore guard has opened the season looking poised for a breakout year—both for herself and for Carmel. She has embraced a leadership role early, aiming to help elevate and turn the Carmel program in the right direction. That effort was on full display in her matchup against Zionsville, where she put together an exceptional offensive performance. She shot an impressive 8-for-10 from the field, consistently attacking the basket, finishing through contact, and getting to the free-throw line. The word that came to mind immediately with her was how efficient she is with the basketball. She makes plays, but doesn’t do it flashy, she gets the job done, which is the most important thing. She has good handles, able to create shots and knock down the perimeter jumper.

Bella is another prospect who has shown nice growth in her game over the past three to six months. She has gotten a little stronger, but I think it’s more of a mental approach for her. She has the reputation of being a good perimeter shooter, but now she is much better with the basketball in her hands, running offense at times and creating for open teammates. She’s also being more aggressive in attacking the rim and becoming a complete scorer.
