It’s always fun when I get the chance to see an out-of-state prospect from the region for the first time. Natalie had a very solid day at Oakland Elite Camp, moving very well for her size, demonstrating great instincts as a passer, and a versatile skill set that translates to the higher levels. She plays with a cerebral presence, makes good backdoor cuts, sets strong ball screens to create open driving lanes for guards, catches passes with soft hands inside, and stays active on the glass. Natalie secured two offensive rebounds on the same possession, used a great spin pivot to score off two feet after pinning her defender deep with a strong seal, finished with a fluid transfer off the catch next to the basket, and showed the ability to hit a mid-range jumper from the elbow. Natalie is a post prospect I’d be excited to see again at the Indiana Sophomore ID Camp coming up.

Compared to her peers, Natalie has always had a height advantage. At the same time, she has done a really nice job of developing her skillset. She has a solid face-up game, whether that be in the mid-post or from the perimeter. She has good touch for a young ‘big’, and she is also an effective passer from the top of the key. Defensively, she does a nice job of rotating to “help” and giving her guards the security of having someone back there protecting the rim. As she continues her progression, gets stronger, and makes her jumper more consistent, she’ll be a tough matchup for years to come.

Natalie Whelan-Edwards Natalie Whelan-Edwards 6'3" | C/PF Carmel | 2029 State IN gives Carmel a versatile forward presence who impacts the game in multiple areas. She brings size, physicality, and a high basketball IQ that allows her to contribute on both ends of the floor. Her ability to play inside while also stretching defenses makes her a difficult matchup.
Offensively, Whelan-Edwards does a great job finishing around the rim and using her strength in the paint. She rebounds at a high level and consistently creates second-chance opportunities. She also shows strong touch around the basket and understands positioning well in half-court sets.
Defensively, she provides toughness and reliability. She rebounds outside of her area, contests shots, and communicates well within the team defense. Her motor and willingness to do the little things make her extremely valuable. Carmel continues to benefit from her versatility and consistent effort every game.
