Averaging 7 assists per game and ranking 2nd in the state, Wellnitz is also a major scorer making her an invaluable asset to Argyle. She averages an impressive double-double with 21.2 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. She also shoots 54% from the field showing off her high percentage shot attempts and efficiency. She thrives at creating space and finding openings off the ball for offensive opportunities. Wellnitz can effortlessly hit shots at the perimeter and often surprises defenders with her quick release. Her scrappy, hustler style is evident as she constantly crashes the boards and dives for loose balls. She has a rare knack for anticipating rebounds and great hands which allows her to secure possession and keep plays alive. I was impressed by her ability to finish strong at the rim with her left hand, even through contact, making her a reliable scorer in the paint.

Few players make the defensive impact that Wellnitz does in any division, let alone D5. Wellnitz is why the Argyle/Pecatonica press worked as well as it did this season. Her length, athleticism, and activity at 5’10 make her a permanent irritant for opposing guards attempting to beat the ten-second count without turning the ball over. She hadn’t been someone who looked to score as much as she could, but she affects the game in so many ways it almost doesn’t matter. She’ll probably take a significant step at Argyle/Pecatonica in year No. 2.
