I missed De’ja over the summer, but I’ve gotten a good dose of her game between fall league play and this showcase. At the point, she does a good job of pushing the ball in transition and immediately putting pressure on the defense to get back and get organized. She showed the ability to knock down the three while also keeping her eyes up and finding open cutters for scoring opportunities.

One of her best plays of the day came on a beautiful spin move into a drop step that allowed her to split three defenders and finish at the basket. It was an impressive combination of footwork, body control, and awareness in traffic.

De’ja also made her presence felt defensively. She was aggressive guarding the ball, applying consistent pressure and using her activity to create deflections and steals. Her ability to impact the game on both ends stood out. She can push the pace, create for others, score when opportunities are there, and bring the type of defensive energy you want from the point guard position.

De’ja is your get the ball out the rim and go point guard. During the 5v5 games De’ja made three quality transition passes to her front court teammates, that were placed perfectly to put them into scoring position.

Her ability to slow down and run the offense came evident once in the half court setting as she was able to collapse the defense with her quick crossover to either get into her mid range pull up or pass to her cutting teammates.

De’ja was instrumental in Pikesville’s 3-point win over Roland Park. She made a huge three-pointer at the buzzer from just inside the half court line to force overtime and made several key plays down the stretch. She settled the team down when necessary and played tough defense.

This was De’ja’s first time out with her new team as she transferred in from Rosedale Christian. She looked like she’ll be a great fit as she enhanced Pikesville’s already strong defense. Her on ball pressure is elite and she helped out on offense as well, delivering some accurate passes and getting into the lane repeatedly.

De’ja played a complete game at the point. She distributed the ball when needed seeming to always make the correct play. She showed the ability to beat traps as well as get off her own shot. Defensively she stayed played solid and was always in position to deny or deflect passes. The word is that she has been having a solid year and it showed.

De’ja was an energizer for her team on both ends of the court. She constantly pushed the ball up the court before St. Frances could set their defense and found her teammates for open looks. She kept pressure on the defense by running on misses and makes. She delivered some great passes and played really good on ball defense.

De’ja shows her value on the defensive end as she racks up the steals each game. She is a good rebounder despite being only 5’5″ and she is good on the offensive glass. She looks for her teammates on the floor and as her shot attempts go up I can see her scoring going up as well.
