About Evie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Smart defender. Good at anticipating and getting deflections. Strong 3-point shooter with good range. Can mix-it up with mid-range jumpers and getting to the paint. Love spreading the floor, running lane lines hard in transition.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Set hard goals and work hard to get after them. I like to get my stuff done, do the hard things first, then relax and hang out.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

National Charity League National Honor Society

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've been working on all of these things. I like working in teams. I volunteer a lot, and feel good about that. I can be a better, more vocal leader, but need to work on that a bit yet.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Mostly just meeting my own high standards with grades and making better sports teams (I was a "B" player and have made the climb to "A", and played JV as a freshman at Wayzata). Life's been pretty good to me beyond that.

What type of college are you looking for?

Something in the midwest, for sure. Like within 5-6 hours of Minneapolis. Ideally bigger than my HS (grad class of 1000), and in a town bigger than mine (Maple Grove is 70,000), but I don't really know. I'm open to where the fit and vibe feel right with the campus and basketball program.

Backer earned her way into the Prep Girls Hoops rankings this year. Observers at the Expo saw why. Backer has so much length, growing confidence and a more assertive presence on the court now than before. Evie usually plays the game with simplicity and efficiency, moving without the ball and scoring as needed. With Stars Lindahl this summer she closed the AAU season strong, including a 20-point outing against Freeze 2027 where she hit four threes. Competition for minutes is fierce at Wayzata, but Backer’s length, mobility, and versatile scoring ability give her a chance to earn opportunities.
