found her groove quickly, draining a pair of early threes as she finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 1 block in a win over Pope. The lefty sank four jumpers and went 3-4 from the line. Cleaveland’s soft touch from the perimeter along with her quickness to balls and ability to bang in the paint makes her one of the state’s more versatile offensive prospects.

Georgia Southern became the state champion’s first D-I offer after River Ridge’s win over Lovejoy. Cleaveland was a major stock riser this season. The southpaw’s ability to score with her jumper and pound away for buckets inside is impressive. At camp she did a good job scoring in transition and running the floor. Kayla’s skilled at using both hands at the rim. Even with her foot not at 100%, she’s often times the quickest to every rebound and every loose ball. Expect more D-I offers to pile in this offseason.

Kayla’s physicality and nose for the ball set the tone early on for the Knights in their 61-43 win over Marist. Cleaveland was quicker than everyone to rebounds, bursting through to secure boards, tipping them to herself and tracking down any long caroms. The stretch-forward was locked in with her jump shot, hitting three from the mid-range and stepping outside to can a three-pointer. Of course, if you know Kayla’s game, she’s a three-level scorer. She did damage on the low block converting three And-1s. What also stuck out to me was Kayla’s crafty passing in the paint. She would split traps with bounce passes and wrap around assists when defenders zoned in on her. Cleaveland produced 17 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. The lefty will be a focus for Low Major and Mid-Major programs this offseason.

Entering action as River Ridge’s leading scorer, Kayla broke through in the fourth quarter with nine of her 16 points. The lefty loves the mid-range jumper from the elbow and has range that expands to the three-point line. Cleaveland provided toughness in the paint, pulling down 5 rebounds and converting through contact for And-1s. Kayla’s offensive skill set is diverse but her defense deserves some credit too. She sacrificed her body taking a charge and played physical against Brookwood’s large frontline. She’s another Knight that should start drawing D-I attention soon.

A lot of size on the Team Tre roster. Kayla is a forward that shows some perimeter shooting. Handle it well for her size and rebounded well.
