Kyle Sandy | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Sophia’s growth into becoming a pure point guard has been fun to watch. In a 74-60 win over Holy Innocents’, the Furman-signee only scored 2 points but collected 4 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and 1 block to orchestrate River Ridge’s high-octane offense. Pearl has tremendous vision as a playmaker and is able to score from all three levels when hunting her offense.

Sophia was a main attraction on Sunday, a key reason why multiple D-I programs showed out in full force to scout. With just five players and at one point having to play 5 on 4, River Ridge ran out of gas seeing a 12-point lead evaporate into a 45-43 loss to New Manchester, a late three doing in the shorthanded Knights. Playing with one other starter, two JV players and an eighth grader, Pearl did the heavy lifting with 26 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Her ability to carry a team offensively has been one of her most impressive areas of growth, stepping into the lead guard position with Mataya Gayle now at Penn. Pearl hit pull-up threes and used her shiftiness to get into the lane. With the deck stacked against her, Sophia nearly pulled off a magic trick with an improbable win. D-II and D-I schools in attendance got to see why Pearl is one of 2025’s very best.

Sophia kept her dribble alive while probing the defense and was patient until she got what she wanted, whether a shot or an assist. A handful of Low Major and Mid-Major programs have offered.

Pearl has packed on muscle to her frame. Does a good job stopping on a dime for pull-up jumpers. Is a steady on-ball defender. Looked to be more of a facilitator this week. Sophia holds a handful of D-I offers

The state champ looked light on her feet, floating around the floor darting different directions as she was in the middle of everything. Pearl made a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2 with her creative handle against pressure. She has a tough spin move in traffic and can quickly locate the rim to get to her floater. Sophia is a lethal shooter from deep. She shows a lot of toughness on both ends of the floor and is undervalued as a defender, a really pesky perimeter guarder. Multiple D-I schools have offered.

Pearl did a nice job scoring downhill. She converted on two floaters, a pull-up jumper and an And-1 layup in transition. Sophia finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. It is always a positive sign to see such a good shooter like Pearl still manage to be effective when her long ball isn’t dropping.
