Expert Analysis
John Millyard | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Nelson might’ve been the best pure point guard this season in Southern Arizona. Her ability to run the offense and see the court were second to none. She consistently made plays and great passes despite being double covered most of the time. Doesn’t get rattled despite the pressure. She was a very effective scorer scoring on 40% of her field goal attempts and 38% from the perimeter. She moves very well defensively dictating the pace opposing guards would play. Nelson was selected as the 4A Kino Region Player of the Year. She will return a long with the entire team next season in hopes of securing a state championship.

Nelson had a great season where she saw her stock raise tremendously. One of the best pure point guards regardless of class. Stays well composed through opponents pressure and makes plays despite being guarded by multiple defenders. Nelson helped lead the Lancers to an undefeated regular season record in both region play and conference play and a number one ranking in the 4A State Playoffs. Nelson finished with 11.4 points, 3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game. She picked up an offer from Pima College who just won the National Championship this past week. Expect Nelson the get more attention between now and next season.

Jayci played the game exactly how a point guard is supposed to. Calm, composed, and always under control. She set a great tempo, didn’t rush anything, and took what the defense gave her. No forcing, no panic, just smart basketball. She kept her team organized and flowing offensively. She also played very solid on the ball defense.

Nelson is arguably one of the top true point guards in the 2027 class. She sets the pace of the game and is rarely if ever rattled by defensive pressure. She makes strong accurate passes while being double teamed and is just a dynamic playmaker. On the season she is averaging 11.7 points, 2.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. A highly effective player on both sides of the ball. Nelson has received her first offer of what I believe will be many to play at Pima College in Tucson, Arizona.

Nelson is one of the top PGs in her class from Arizona, and her handling the ball under pressure, as well as controlling the tempo and making the right decisions immediately, stood out. She’s a “long and athletic” guard who saw the floor well across the board. She scored off the dribble and played tough defense

A true floor general that directed the offense showing great IQ for the game. Very effective in passing and involving her teammates. She knows how to create a shot and can score at a high rate off the dribble. This is a prospect you’ll be hearing more about throughout the high school season.
