Kyah will be an exciting addition to Michigan’s basketball community, transferring to Niles from Penn. Her length, athletic build, versatility, and next-level potential as a wing-guard immediately caught my attention at the PGH Michigan Expo. It started in 3v3 when Kyah attacked on a hard drive, muscled through contact with her shoulder, then dropped in a floater off two feet. She showed confidence as a three-point shooter and was able to convert multiple layups in traffic. She evaded a defender with an effective spin move to score a contested bucket at the rim, landed under control on two feet, waited for the defender to fly by, then finished off two feet. Kyah ripped the ball away aggressively for a steal on defense and worked hard to apply pressure on perimeter ball-handlers. She switched hands to protect the ball against pressure in the open court and jumped into the passing lane for a steal in the back court. Kyah will be a playmaker to watch at Niles this winter.

Kyah was new to me this Spring, and I thought she was a highly intriguing athlete on the wing who definitely showed a lot of potential. She can get out and run in transition, she is a nice all-around athlete, plus she has a great deal of length and some wiry strength to her. She is very active and always around the ball, and she is an effective downhill attacker right now. She pursues rebounds, she’s an effortful defender, and she is good in trapping situations. As she continues to tighten her skillset and shoot it more consistently outside, she could be a problem.

This was my first time seeing Kyah in action, and she is definitely intriguing for such a young prospect. First, she is extremely long & wiry, but she’s fluidly athletic and somewhat bouncy. She runs the outer lanes in transition well, and on the catch she is looking to break down defenders almost immediately and get into the paint. As she continues to gain strength and improve her handle, she should become a much better attacker, but she definitely stood out as someone who could have a bright future.
