Lyla is about to have a breakout season for Howell. She’s dynamic with the ball and can pass, shoot, or create off the dribble. Lyla’s hustle, aggressive defense, toughness, creativity, and scoring gave the Highlanders a boost at the LBI Mitten Opening. She put her defender in jail after a crossover dribble and dropped in a soft floater. Lyla attacked downhill on a hard drive to the hoop and finished a tough layup through contact with her left. She chased down offensive rebounds, distributed accurate passes to open teammates, and drained a confident corner three. Lyla jumped into the passing lanes for steals and hit the deck to secure 50/50 balls.

After graduating a pair of productive point guards from the program, it’s clear the Highlanders have their next great guard joining the squad this season. The mark of a sharpshooter is efficiency, and that’s exactly the type of shooter Lyla is, an efficient one. She makes good decisions with the ball in her hands and makes the most of her open looks. Lyla was clutch for Howell against an elite opponent, leading the team with four three-pointers, including a go ahead triple from the corner with 15 seconds left. She crashed the boards to secure an offensive rebound and threw a soft entry pass on target for the assist. Lyla ripped the ball swiftly by a defender from the top of the key, drove by with a burst, and finished the layup with her left through contact. She looked impressive at Northwood Team Camp and will play a huge role this winter.

The long lost art of the effective post feed. Valentine proved that it’s not skipping the generation. She had a beautiful lob feed over the top of a defender.

Lyla was one of the best decision-makers and effective lead guards at our Freshman Showcase. She attacked defenders off the dribble and recognized when to patiently bring the ball out. Lyla dished a strong 1-handed pass on a rope to her teammate in transition and buried a high-arcing 3 from the corner. Lyla boxed out hard to secure rebounds and drove full court to score a layup.
