Mia made a difference with her all-around impact for Mercy at BCAM Reaching Higher. She used a quick crossover, spin combo dribble to beat her defender to the basket and changed hands to convert the layup. Mia has great instincts and awareness on the defensive end. She’s aggressive in the gaps and makes all the effort plays. Mia moved her feet quickly on the ball to stop dribble penetration, dove on the floor to secure 50/50 balls, ripped the ball away for a steal, deflected passes, and dished out assists after creating turnovers. Mia is an excellent facilitator, and she competes with a non-stop motor. She worked hard to grab offensive rebounds and absorbed contact well to score a layup in transition.

Retzbach does a great job of using her speed to get out ahead of the defense with and without the ball. She’s not afraid to pressure the ball-handler to cause a turnover and push for an easy two. With her head up in transition, she’s able to create opportunities for her teammates and could definitely be a spark for this Mercy offense.

Mia gained a reputation for her defensive effort and effort plays at our Freshman Showcase; her hustle stood out at Michigan Dearborn prospect camp. Mia scored a full speed layup in transition and hit the deck to secure a 50/50 ball. Mia showed burst off the dribble and she is a glue kind of player who I’m looking forward to following over the next few years at Mercy.
