Already a consistent performer at the varsity level, Goranson’s game skyrocketed this summer. The Proctor 8th grader led the way for Minn Starks 14U all season, routinely showing off her effortless athleticism, hard-nosed defense, and three-level scoring. It wasn’t long before Reese’s name began coming up in our conversations with coaches from around the region. With a long, wiry frame and plenty of athletic potential, the 5’11 guard plays with the right balance of fluidity and speed. She’s skilled with the ball in her hands, has an efficient release on her outside shot, and can play as a primary ball handler or an off ball guard. Over the spring and summer we saw Goranson put on a number of dominant offensive performances, routinely scoring in the high teens against high level competition. It’s obvious that the Rails have something special in their incoming freshman class.

Goranson’s game has made plenty of noise among the AAU cohort since we first wrote about her back in May at the AAU State Prelims. Watch her play for a few minutes and you’ll understand why. Long and wiry, but deceptively strong, the Proctor 8th grader is a step ahead of her peers in terms of athleticism. Reese (pictured above) approaches the game with a smooth, fluid style that looks almost effortless at times, while still playing hard and giving each possession her full effort. The Starks guard was offensively dominant at Summer Jam, scoring 63 points across four games. Whether through catch-and-shoot threes, pull-up jumpers in the midrange, or explosive drives to the basket, Goranson found openings and was able to connect at every level.

We weren’t very far into the day on Saturday when Goranson (pictured above) first jumped out at us. Standing at 5’11 with long strides and a major bounce in her step, the athletic potential of the Proctor 8th grader was immediately evident. Smooth, yet quick in the open court, Reese was able to blow by defenders in transition, and could just as easily jump passing lanes and close gaps on the defensive end. While the Minnesota Starks guard found most of her scoring from inside the arc over the weekend, Goranson’s size and speed allow her to be an offensive threat from multiple spots on the floor. It’s still early, of course, but this is a prospect who’s got scholarship-level potential written all over.
