We’ve highlighted Abosi’s game a couple of times now, most recently for her performance at the PGH Minnesota Freshman Showcase last month. This weekend, we caught a glimpse of the 5’9 wing in action with Benilde-St. Margaret’s for the first time. On a Red Knights roster that’s loaded with experienced Division 1 and 2 prospects such as

, it wasn’t immediately clear where Abosi (pictured above) would fit. Now being given the opportunity to contribute, Leyah stepped up to the plate beautifully on Sunday.
The BSM freshman supplied an immediate dose of hustle, diving for loose balls and fighting hard on the glass as soon as she came into the game. Using her strength and physicality to her advantage, Leyah also showed no fear on the defensive end. And when mistakes occurred, Abosi displayed a strong “next-play” mentality, allowing her to recover with ease.

Abosi’s game has loads of potential. Standing at 5’9 and possessing plenty of strength and athleticism, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s freshman was quick to look for her shot on Sunday. Leyah found seams in the defense, attacking the rim with a full head of steam. Once she got to the basket, the Diamond Elite wing either finished off two feet through contact, or recognized the double team and quickly got the ball to an open teammate. Her persistence was key, though. Even when the shots weren’t falling, Abosi continued to find open looks, share the ball, and make hustle plays on defense.

It wasn’t long before Abosi (pictured above) stood out on Saturday. Standing at 5’9 with a lengthy and muscular frame, she immediately caught our eye. The Diamond Elite wing has a high degree of natural athleticism; she gracefully runs the floor, explodes off the dribble, and elevates over her defenders with ease. We saw Leyah make plenty of great reads, finding gaps in the defense to allow her to get downhill to the rim, finishing through contact with a soft touch. When she caught the ball on the perimeter, she took smart shots, knocking them down with a smooth, textbook release. Abosi earned regular varsity minutes with Minneapolis Southwest this winter, making her one of the youngest players in the Lakers rotation.
