Arguably the best guard I saw at the event. She has great feel for the game and and high IQ. She knows when to attack and score and when to set her teammates up. She put on a scoring clinic at times and played some strong on ball defense. She’s quick, crafty and strong.

WT Elite 17U was one of three teams in the division that departed from Alabama with an unblemished record. Opposing teams all weekend had a hard time containing. Acuña. A team with players that have international experience – such as the Florida-based AAU assembling can be especially dangerous at events like Roll Tide Rumble. Acuña fuses together talent, scoring ability, a high basketball IQ and veteran instincts. She maintains a high degree of activity even when the ball is not in her hands. When it is in her hands, she will attract a great deal of attention from defenses.

Backcourt play was a major factor in White Tigers Elite 17U’s victory over Alabama Elite 17U. Acuña’s superb play ensured her Florida-based assembling would begin this year’s Roll Tide Rumble in the win column. She is a skilled attacker of the rim and a number of those occasions where she does go directly to the basket occur in the transition game. One can automatically think of the phrase “floor general” when watching Acuña operate on the court. Acuña maintains a high degree of activity even when the ball is not in her hands and she takes advantage of the attention she gets from defenses to find her open teammates.

Sofia is always in attack mode with the ball in her hands whether it is getting down hill to score or draw the help defender and find an open teammate. She is also a threat to score from behind the three point line in both catch and shoot situations off of dribble drive action that coach Wesley Arocho likes to run or by creating space off the dribble to create her own shot. She has cat-like quickness and competes hard at both ends of the floor. She scored the ball several times in several ways for White Tigers Elite versus the always very good All Iowa Attack. Her stock should rise after an efficient night scoring the ball and playing with control and pace versus one of the best teams in the country. Her teammates looked to her for leadership throughout the game and she stayed positive and encouraging throughout.

Sofia Acuna ran the show with poise. She controlled tempo, read help defenders, and consistently created easy shots for teammates by drawing double teams. Acuna does a good job of balancing scoring and facilitating. When she looked to score, she showed a serious skillset. On one play she drove baseline where she hung in the air and finished with a short lay up. Acuna can step back and hit the three, go either direction, rebound, and finish at the rim. She is a true floor general who plays the game with great composure and instincts.

Sofia is easily a Top 3 PG in the 2027 class in Florida. She has 17U FIBA playing experience with Mexico and has performed well on that stage. Her ability to see the floor, distribute, but also score it is pretty elite. Her college interest includes some top mid-major schools and I expect her list to grow over the summer.

This was my first time seeing Sofia play live, and I was very impressed. She pushed the ball ahead in transition with great court vision and threw a couple long touchdown passes to her team for easy buckets. Her game is crafty as she plays with a lot of swagger and can hit the three-ball when open. In the game I watched, she had a filthy no-look pass and step thru move that led to 2 smooth points.
