Whitley is a workhorse and will outlast anyone in a battle. She fights for every rebound and every loose ball, count 50/50 balls as hers. She finishes well inside and cleans up on the offensive glass. She can get hot from around thirteen feet and even stretch out to the three. When her shot is on and she’s in a zone she plays at MVP levels.

Whitley goes after rebounds even when she isn’t near the play, something that yields her good results. She charges the basket and avoids the box out. She has the ability to knock down shots from ou to the three and can still get to the rebound if she misses for a putback.

Whitley was solid on the boards and used her long arms to rebound outside of her box. She battled inside but separated herself late with back to back three pointers that was enough to gain her the MVP award in her game.

Whitley Watkins put in two good performances for Spalding. She was solid defensively against St. Andrews and scored efficiently, ending this game with 11 points. Against Potomac School, she lived at the line and used her size well. She went 11/12 at the line and showed off her touch. Whitley already takes some threes now, but FT shooting is always a great indicator of how good a shooter someone can really be.

Whitley had her fingerprints all over the action today. She was a monster on the boards, using her size to control both ends of the court. Defensively she was a menace, blocking and altering shots all day. It wasn’t her best day on offense as she missed a few easy shots, but with improved footwork she will be able to rack up big scoring totals.

Sometimes it can be as simple as dropping a line in the Twitter DM. We got to see more of Whitley via video and after some conferring with several coaches Whitley got a huge boost from #79 to #20. Her skill level and length played a large role in influencing the rise as did her athleticism for her size. At 6’2″ she runs the floor like a guard and finishes pretty well in the lane. As we see more of her perimeter game manifest I can see her stock continuing to rise.

Whitley dominated the action against New Town right from the start of the game. She finished the day with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. She posted up strong and took advantage of New Town’s lack of size repeatedly. When her shots didn’t fall, she attacked the glass for second chances and drew fouls. She shot 5 for 6 from the line, proving to be a threat from there as well. She is poised for a big IAAM season.

Whitley has legit size and uses it well. She blocked multiple shots and rebounded the ball well. She has a good shooting touch around the rim and has a nice face up game out to the foul line. She fights hard for position in the post area and is strong enough to hold it once she gets it.
