Expert Analysis
Tink Butler | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Vanesa was relentless on the boards gathering both offensive and defensive rebounds. She was solid inside with her back to the basket but did equally well turning and facing the basket. She was versatile enough to bring the ball up in transition and start the break going she was also running the offense from the point. She was a difference maker on when she was in the game and one of the absolute best players in the gym.

Vanesa’s athleticism is unmatched and hard to compete against, as her tall frame and quick lift off the floor allows her to win most rebounding battles. That same athleticism was evident when she was on the block with her back to the rim. She showed a nice power dribble spin move that froze her defender as she was able to finish with a easy layup. Vanesa is another player who can guard multiple positions in the open court.

At 6-foot-1, Vanesa is a matchup nightmare with her ability to handle the ball, shoot, and attack the rim. Her length allows her to keep the ball high when finishing, making it extremely difficult for defenders to contest. She plays with great balance and body control through contact and is also effective in the mid-range, elevating into smooth pull-up jumpers.

Vanesa brings rare versatility, with the ability to play positions 2 through 5 and impact the game in a variety of ways. She’s comfortable securing the defensive rebound and immediately pushing the break, showing confidence with the ball while consistently making the right in-game decisions.
Her high motor stands out, especially on the defensive end, where she competes on every possession and makes opponents work. That effort and versatility will make her increasingly difficult to score on as the summer progresses.
Looking ahead, Vanesa is on track to step into a primary big role in the IAAM conference next winter, where her all-around game should translate into major production.

Vanesa Flood’s motor is elite, and it’s something you love to see from someone as highly touted as she is. She missed a lot of shots around the rim, but her effort and rebounding ability kept so many possessions alive for Spalding. I loved what she did defensively, and her versatility on that end showed. She did a great job using her length to go up vertically, and she is a really fluid athlete. She is one of the best paint players in the DMV and can dominate games on both ends.

Spalding went undefeated in the SGGC and Vanesa was a huge reason for their success. She was able to use her athleticism inside to get around the 6’3″ post she had to face. She figured out ways to get her shot off and by the end of the game she was the best player on the court.

Vanesa attacked the lane using her shoulder to clear her path to the basket. She didn’t allow herself to get forced of her line and finished very well in a variety of ways including a nice reverse finish in traffic that was a thing of beauty.
She got to the line finishing the three point play and showed touch around the 13 foot mark. She looked really confident on the perimeter and has a nice form on her shot. She is listed as a power forward but her versatility makes her more of a combo wing.
