The contest started with both teams showing their powerful capabilities until Northridge took a comfortable lead and refused to slow down. Here is a look back at some of the game’s standout players:
McKenna Cone – 2021 Guard – Northridge
Cone finished the game as the leading scorer with 18 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter. She plays with an intensity that makes her a very dangerous scorer, as well as a relentless defender. She shot 50% (two of four) from three-point range and 60% (six of ten) from two-point range. Cone also recorded four rebounds to help lead her team to a win.
Julia Mischke – 2021 Guard – Centaurus
Mischke finished the night with 16 points, second-most in the game. She also tallied four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. She is averaging 13 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game. Mischke was a definite standout in this contest.
Makenna Shaffer – 2022 Guard/Forward – Northridge
Shaffer dominated the post on offense and defense. She has the ability to drive to the rim and the skill to score off of a low-post turnaround jumper. Her height and her intense playing style is what enabled her to dominate the board. Shaffer finished the night with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and a block.
Laura Gensert – 2023 Guard/Forward – Centaurus
This standout freshmen made her presence felt all over the court. She has the skillset and versatility to defend the perimeter and the post. She finished with five rebounds, all of which were defensive boards. She is also a dangerous scorer who finished the game with 13 points, nine of which came from the three-point range. Gensert is a vocal leader who will only improve throughout her career.
Seneya Martinez – 2022 Guard – Northridge
Martinez is the type of complementing player that is truly an asset to the team. Her motor is non-stop, making her a dangerous player on offense and defense. Shooting 57% from the field (four of seven), Martinez finished the with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Karly Beck – 2023 Guard – Northridge
Beck is another freshman who quickly became a standout in this game. She finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. In the fourth quarter, she was sent to the line for bonus free-throws two times and made all four attempts. Beck was absolutely clutch in this game.
