One team reached the 2-A East regional title game for the third straight year while another made their best playoff run in school history. Overall, four schools won 14 games or more this season and a lot of players had big seasons for their respective program. Here is the Prep Girls Hoops NC All-Lenoir County team.
First team
Ashanti Lynch (North Lenoir guard, 2022)
Lynch is one of the top point guards in Eastern North Carolina and has helped North Lenoir become an even better program than they already were. The Hawks sophomore averaged close to 19 points per game and led them to their best playoff run in school history. Lynch is one of the most consistent scorers and defenders in the state and is only going to keep improving. Expect her stock to rise as the new high school basketball season approaches.
Michyla Dove (Kinston guard, 2020)
Dove is a guard that can do a little of everything from scoring to rebounding and passing. Her steady play contributed to the success Kinston had during the 2019-20 season. Whenever, she had a big game on both ends of the floor, teams had little chance of hanging around against the Vikings. Dove is a part of a stellar 2020 class for Kinston that has gone to three straight 2-A East regional title games.
Virginia Edmondson (Arendell Parrott forward, 2021)
Despite only playing half of the season due to injury, Edmondson made a huge impact for Arendell Parrott during the season. When the junior forward was on the floor, she was one of the top rebounders and defenders in the county. In 10 games. Edmondson averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals per game. Arendell Parrott went undefeated with their standout forward in the starting lineup. With her back and healthy, the Patriots will be a playoff team once again in the NCISAA 3-A division.
Taliyah Jones (Kinston forward, 2020)
Jones was Kinston’s leading scorer at 13 points per game this season. Every big game the Vikings played over the course of her career, the senior forward performed at a high level. She might be undersized for a post player, but has the toughness and basketball IQ to make up for it. Jones can knock down perimeter shots and get by post players off the dribble. Kinston won a conference championship in each of her four seasons on the team.
Kanijah Taylor (North Lenoir forward, 2020)
Taylor was a big part of North Lenoir’s success throughout the season. The senior forward feasted on both the offensive and defensive glass on a consistent basis for the Hawks. She improved her game during the past offseason by working on her ball handling and outside shooting. Both of these things made her one of the more versatile post players in Eastern North Carolina. Taylor is also a part of a great group of available unsigned seniors in Lenoir County.
