Their leading scorer on the season was a freshman and behind her was a junior. In 2020-21, they’re set to return as a top team in the state. Here’s a way too early look at some prospects to keep an eye on at St. Paul’s School.
T.J. Eichelberger – Guard – 2021
Eichelberger is a prospect that was due to carry over her productive junior season into the grassroots season with Carolina Flames. She’s a 5-foot-7 pure scorer that’s amassed over 1,500 points as a junior and should surpass 2,000 by her career’s end. She put up 12.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.7 spg in 2019-20, leading the team in scoring and was one of the main distributors in the backcourt as well. She should have a big senior season and has drawn interest from the likes of Manhattan, North Carolina A&T, Radford, Furman, Campbell, Elizabeth City State, UNC-Pembroke, Fayetteville State and holds an offer from Thomas University.
Taliya Council – Guard/Wing – 2022
Council is a twin and is set to make waves on the wing and in the backcourt for the Lady Bulldogs for years to come. She’s a 6-foot-1 sharpshooter on the wing that’s long and athletic. She shot 39 percent from 3-point range in 2019-20 while putting up 9.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 2.3 spg as a sophomore. She’s due for a breakout season in 2020-21 as she uses her length and size well on both ends to make things happen on the hardwood. She’s drawn interest from Bradley, Western Kentucky, Providence, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Tech already.
Tamyra Council – Forward – 2022
Council is the other half of the twins on the St. Paul’s roster. She plays mainly in the post at her size at 6-foot-1. She’s can shoot it in the midrange, but unlike her sister, she’s mainly a presence in the paint. She’s an active defender and cleans up the offensive glass better than anyone else in the rotation. She averaged 2.4 ppg and 3.5 rpg in the rotation for the Lady Bulldogs in 2019-20. She’s gotten interest from Bradley and Western Kentucky.
Jakieya Thompson – Guard – 2023
Thompson was another leader in the backcourt for St. Paul’s School in 2019-20 despite being just a freshman. She’s a high energy player that competes and uses all her tools to help her team win. She produced 12.4 ppg, 5.4 apg, 5.2 spg and 2.9 rpg last season, leading the way in assists and steals. She gets her points off steals and playing passing lanes, passing first as the floor general and using all her weapons on the floor. She’s gotten interest from Western Kentucky and Fayetteville State so far.
Shakiya Floyd – Wing/Forward – 2021
Floyd is set to play the 6th Woman role entering her senior season as she did in 2019-20. She produced 4.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 1.4 spg off the bench last year. She’s an athletic defender at 5-foot-9 that can play the 3 & 4 spot on the floor. She’s got a super high motor that allows her to finish well at the rim. She’s gotten interest from St. Andrew’s University and Barton College.
