A High School Basketball season is built on how well the players know each other and trust what the others are doing on the court, you find this on teams that have players that are in the same Graduating class together and may have played travel ball outside of school. This list will identify some of the Best Pairings of Teammates that are in the same recruiting class.
Millbrook High School – Reychel Douglas Reychel Douglas 6'0" | SG Millbrook | 2023 State #41 Nation NC – 6’0” – Wing and Destinee Barnes – 5’9” – Guard – Both of these players hit the floor this year and were not afraid of the bright lights of playing “BIG TIME” Varsity Basketball in the Hoop State. They helped to make a huge jump in Wins on the court this year – 2019 Millbrook finished 17 – 11 and this year they Lost in the NCHSAA Regional Final (Final4) with a 24 – 7 Record. Douglas came in and has lived up to the expectations of 1 of the top players in the 2023 Freshman class as ESPN Ranked her in their Top 25 Players Nationally, Barnes was a name I knew and she lived up to the high expectations of a player that entered the Starting lineup from day 1, the future is bright at Millbrook. Next year I am looking for both of these players to make that jump in their stat line and impactful plays on the court, this is a 4A NCHSAA State Championship contender in 2021.
Providence Day School – Chandler Brooks – 5’10” – Guard and Jordyn Latter – 5’8” – Guard – This combination of players really fit in with a group of 6 Seniors that Providence Day had this year, Chandler is an extremely skilled player that can distribute the ball to everyone on the court, that showed in her numbers while playing in all 30 games – she averaged 4.8 Points – 3.9 Assists – 4.1 Rebounds along with Jordyn Latter who also played in all 30 games and contributed 5.8 Points – 4.1 Rebounds – 2.5 Steals to a team that improved from 19 – 12 in 2019 to 24 – 6 in 2020 including the NCISAA 4A State Championship. I am looking forward to seeing these 2 teammates take the lead role for this program for the next 3 years of their high school careers.
Shelby High School – Maraja Pass Maraja Pass 5'6" | PG Winston-Salem Christian National | 2023 State NC – 5’4” – Guard and Ally Hollifield – 5’4” – Guard – Players are the main reason for a turnaround on the court, in 2019 Shelby high school team finished with a 17 – 8 record and lost in the 1st round of the NCHSAA 2A State Playoffs and turn the page to 2020 and they were able to go 23 – 2 and lose in a tight game in the NCHSAA 2A Elite 8. The season turnaround was due to the addition of Maraja Pass Maraja Pass 5'6" | PG Winston-Salem Christian National | 2023 State NC who added 17 Points 5.1 Assists 4.5 Steals per game along with Ally Hollifield who also contributed 12.5 Points 4.1 Rebounds 4.1 Steals per game. This team that Shelby was able to put on the floor this year was amazing because of the excellent Guard play that went out day in and day out, this will be a group to watch over the next few years make a run to the NCHSAA State Finals.
Garner Magnet High School – Amira Offuniyin – 6’0” – Forward and Madison Mims – 5’3’ – Guard – Have made a huge difference in the success of the Garner Magnet program during this past season. During the 2018-2019 season Garner finished the season under .500 Winning percentage with a 12 – 14 record and a 1st round loss in the NCHSAA 4A State playoffs, turn the calendar to 2019-2020 and they finished 20 – 8 and made it to the 2nd Round of the State playoffs before losing. The huge step forward as a team was lead by the addition of Offuniyin who contributed 5.9 Points – 4.5 Rebounds – 1.4 Blocks per game to go along with Mims 6.2 Points – 2.7 Assists – 3.0 Steals, this group will be a tough out in the state playoff during the next few years.
