The most common trait of all of them is their work ethic and leadership abilities. It is such an honor when all your hard work pays off and gets noticed by peers and others.
Amani Smalls- Junior- 5’2” Guard- Reidsville High School
A leader for a successful team that led by example and did a little of everything to ensure the success of her team and teammates. A solid prototype guard with all the skills, a premiere ball handler whether in transition or setting up the offense, a great passer who sees the floor well and makes good decisions, she is a good shooter from midrange and finally, she was a superb defender. Her stats support her importance to her team as she averaged 14 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game to show her all-around skills. These skills led her to an All-Conference selection to go with this honor. She will no doubt be ready to lead her team as a senior next season and with a work ethic like hers expect success and interest from the next level.
Jemoni Carter- Senior- 5’8”- Forward- Western Guilford High School
A versatile athletic forward that can not only play multiple positions offensively but can also defend multiple positions which shows her worth to her team and her possible value at the next level. She is great in transition with the ball in her hands or running the lanes and finishing at the rim. She can score from multiple spots on the floor leading to her 15 points per game average. Where she really excels is on the defensive end where her athletic talents allow her to jump passing lanes and get steals and deflections proven by her 3 steals per game average along with her 9 rebounds a game average. She definitely performed at a high level in her final year and rest assure she has the skills to contribute to a college program somewhere in the US.
Nadia Carter- Senior- 5’1”- Guard- Northeast Guilford High School
A small guard with a big heart and a lot of drive and toughness. She is lightning quick with the ball in hands and getting from one end to the other either finishing herself or passing to open teammates. Where she also excels is getting into the lane to free up shooters and post players and she makes the correct pass and decision more than not. The defensive end is where she also uses her quickness to create havoc for opposing point guards. She was able to average 11 points a game in her senior season and also excel at being a team leader. If there is a team in need of a point guard with skills and heart and plays hard all the time then they should give her a look.
Paula Graichen- Junior- 5’10”- Forward- Greensboro Day School
A versatile forward with guard-like skills that enable her to play multiple positions. She has the ability to handle the ball if needed and is just as comfortable in the post. An improved shooter who can keep the defense honest by making open midrange shots. Look for her next year to step up her game and with that will come team success as well as interest in her at the next level.
Sydney Roberts- Sophomore- 5’5”- Guard- Southeast Guilford High School
A crafty guard that has benefitted tremendously by being a part of a program that won a state championship last year and went 30-1 this year and a berth in the state championship game. She has the luxury of developing her skills without the pressure of having to carry a team and because of that she has flown under the radar but trust me she has the skills. She is solid with the ball and is an accomplished passer, her shooting will continue to improve and next year she will step into more of a leadership role and her skills will bode well for her as will the experience she has gained in the big games and playing alongside star players.
Lillian McRae- Sophomore- 5’6”- Guard- Wesleyan College Academy
A developing guard that leads her team well and works hard on her game. Though the team has not performed she has steadily improved her skills and has become a good standstill shooter. Look for her to be one of the premier guards in the area next season.
Kerry Nelson- Senior- 5’6”- Guard- Rockingham County High School
The leader of her team that has solid guard skills. She has the ball in her hands most of the time and makes good decisions and has the ability to score herself or make the correct pass to an open teammate. She plays hard on both ends and because of that she has earned her spot on this All-Area team.
