The Results And Player Breakdowns
Faith Carson Faith Carson 6'4" | C Buchanan | 2023 State MI – 19.6% of the votes
Carson was terrific this summer. She blew up the grassroots scene and established herself as a top 100 prospect in the country. She has the strength to push opponents around in the paint. Carson was a double-double threat all summer. Most impressive was probably her footwork in all spots of the floor and her ability to pass from the high post.
Macy Brown Macy Brown 5'11" | PG East Grand Rapids | 2023 State MI – 24.2% of the votes
Brown showed the state and the country that she should be considered a premier prospect and easily a top 100 in the nation. She showed a mature and versatile perimeter game all summer. Brown has excellent handles and can single handedly break a press wide open. She makes intelligent passes and can successfully play on or off the ball.
THE GRASSROOTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR
This season, we will have 2 players receive that honor. They ended up with the exact same number of votes. Here they are, your Class of 2023 Grassroots Co-Players Of The Year:
McKenna Macon McKenna Macon 5'8" | PG Lawton | 2023 State MI – 28.1% of the votes
Macon has proved herself to be one of the top point guards in the state. She played up in 17u the entire summer. Macon didn’t just prove she belonged, but she excelled. She has good positional size and strength, but it’s her skill and court demeanor that’s most impressive. Macon just gets it. She feels and understands the ebbs and flows of the game. She can push tempo when it’s needed, or set the troops up in the half court when it’s called for. Macon has solid shot selection and shoots at a high percentage.
Sarah Rambus Sarah Rambus 6'4" | PF IMG ACADEMY | 2023 State FL – 28.1% of the votes
A little birdie told me a while back that Rambus would end up a top 5-10 2023 in the state by summer’s end. They were certainly correct. Rambus played up early in the season, and was terrific in doing so. She’s 6’3″ but she gets out in transition like a guard. Her length and verticality are an absolute weapon on the defensive side of the ball. If an opponent wants to drive the lane when Rambus is in it, they better have excellent body control and creativity.
