Kylie Kravig commits to Colorado Mesa University
Kylie Kravig Kylie Kravig 5'9" | PG University | 2021 State CO is staying home.
On Tuesday, the University High School senior announced via Twitter that she has committed to play basketball at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. Though she had options to play elsewhere, Kravig decided to stick around her home state and play for coach Taylor Wagner and the Mavericks.
“I chose Mesa because they have a great culture and it fit me well academically,” Kravig said. “I’m interested in physical therapy so I want to go into kinesiology. I went to a few camps there earlier in my high school career and that kind of sealed it for me.”
As a junior last season, Kravig led University with 13.8 points per game. The 5-foot-9 point guard also led the bulldogs with 4.4 assists and 3.8 steals a night while grabbing 4.2 rebounds a game. She shot 43 percent (94 for 220) from the field and 28 percent (25 for 89) from 3-point distance.
Honorable mention on the Prep Girls Hoops All-Junior team for the 2019-20 season and a top-20 player in Colorado’s Class of 2021, Kravig also had an offer from Black Hills State University. Colorado Mesa is getting an unselfish player, an excellent ball handler with good court vision and a smart defender who can turn defense into offense for her team at the other end of the floor.
Just wrapping up a great summer with Colorado Basketball Club, her grassroots team, Kravig said finalizing her official commitment prior to her COVID-rescheduled senior season was a big relief for her in uncertain times.
“I didn’t expect it to be as stressful as it was,” Kravig said. “But I just wanted to make sure it was the right decision for me.”
In a statement she released along with her announcement, Kravig wrote the following.
“I am excited to announce that I have verbally committed to Colorado Mesa University! Thank you to all my friends, family, and coaches who have helped me along the way. I could have done it without you. I want to especially thank my teammates for being there with me every step of the way. I am beyond grateful that God has given me the opportunity. Can’t wait to be a Maverick!”
