It has been won by legends such as Kysre Gondrezick, Tabitha Pool, Jordan Walker, Deanna Nolan, and Liz Shrimek. Last year, Detroit Edison’s Gabrielle Elliott Gabrielle Elliott 5'11" | SF Detroit Edison | 2020 State MI took home the honor. With the parameters around this season, the Miss Basketball award will be tougher than normal to determine. We have been introducing some of the candidates for the award this season.

We will now take a look at superstar wing from Lenawee Christian, Bree Salenbien Bree Salenbien 6'2" | SF Lenawee Chrisrian | 2021 State #47 Nation MI . She currently stands as the number 3 ranked prospect in the state by Prep Girls Hoops Michigan. Prep Girls Hoops has her at number 47 in the country in the class of 2021. Salenbien should be universally considered a top 50 prospect in the nation and will be playing at Gonzaga following high school.
Salenbien entered high school as a much acclaimed freshman and has exceeded her star potential. She’s a 2 time state champion and and a 2 time AP Player of the Year.
Salenbien has all the tools needed to excel not just in prep basketball, but beyond that as well. Physically, her positional size and length are obvious weapons. She excels in the open floor, using her long strides to glide up and down the floor. Salenbien is a tough and creative finisher on the break. She is an excellent shooter as well. She can bury a jumper off the catch and off the dribble. Salenbien is probably underestimated as a mid range threat. She has a smooth crossover from right to left, creates space, and can finish with a mid range jumper or a floater. Salenbien has some nice moves that helps her score in isolation as well. In particular, I like a spin move she uses that loses defenders regularly.
Bree Salenbien Bree Salenbien 6'2" | SF Lenawee Chrisrian | 2021 State #47 Nation MI would be an excellent choice for the 2021 Michigan Miss Basketball award winner. She’s had an amazing high school career, and Miss Basketball could be an amazing topper to an outstanding 4 years.
